Removing scott lowe carbon GT wing spoiler
Morning
I 'm trying to remove the Scott Lowe carbon fibre wing spoiler from my new 05 STI to go back to the original spoiler.
Anyone fitted one of these and can tell me how to remove it?
Thanks
Trevor

As usual they are held on by the 4 original bolt holes (WRX fit) The only trouble you might have would be the fact that the black cover plates if you can call them that will most likely be stuck down, mine were on with double sided tape. Other than that piece of cake.

If double sided tape has been used make sure you lift the spoiler off evenly or you can leave dents in the boot lid.The tape takes a hell of a grip and you are prone to try and get one side off first I know because I did this on my last car and left a small dent on the boot lid which pissed me off no end.

Thanks guys- makes sense but before i dig in
Does the 'dome' part pop off - have i got this right and under is the bolt head?
Is it taped to a plate or to the boot itself!?

I saw the nuts yesterday- but they just turn without undoing- so I was assuming that under the 'dome' of the leg is a bolthead? But how do I get the dome of safetly and without scratching my boot?

Perhaps the dome part has been stuck down, get the Mrs hair drier out and warm it up a tad to see if that gives any movement.
Also perhaps the nuts/bolts under it have corroded and rusted, this could also stick it together so maybe some WD40 over a few nights may ease it off.

It is stuck down with a bonding substance similar to that in between the 2 parts of the front lights I have a better heater at work so may use that- will it be ok on the paintwork?
I can lift the back of it up 5mm (because i have leverage over the boot edge) but the rest won't budge- as far as I can tell it is ONLY the bond holding it and not the nut and bolt.
Even if I cut the bolts in the boot- I still wouldnt be able to lift it off- the boot metal is extremely thin and flexes even with minimum pressure on the 'dome'

The work heater should be ok, as long as it does not burn your skin it 'should' not affect the paint, just make sure you do not hold it in one place and gently warm the whole area.
The part the domed cover sits on, is that stuck to your bootlid, if not you could drill the bolts out from inside the lid, pretty tricky job but with a variable speed drill and some decent drill bits it certainly is possible, might just give you a bit more leverage!

The dome seems to be actually stuck to the boot itself- hence reluctance to use heavyduty blades or flathead screw drivers under it
I will try the heater idea tonight if I get a chance
