can i afford a scooby?

Ive got up to 8 grand to spend on a car though would prefer to spend six. I would want a four door and want a turbo if poss.
I am justifying this (to the wife) as a tow car to drag my westfield to various events, and be my general run around. Am I dreaming or should i buy a Volvo t5 estate.
Also starting from scatch on my insurance as i used my no claims on the westy...

You have just missed mine for sale, and due to mindless thugs its in for repair, makes me think a bit why i want a scoob when these people just want to ruin them, and the missus isnt pleased either, shes told me for ages to get rid and buy something a bit more inconspicuous - Nissan 200 or Alfa GTV and the Audi A3 after looking at one recently.
Good luck and if you get one watch where you park it.

Depends a lot on your earnings , your age , projected mileage , etc etc , Wouldn't have thought a T5 would be any cheaper to run , they eat through tyres faster even than a scoob !!!
With a scoob turbo budget on 20-25 mpg or 15-20 if towing , also bear in mind that a Scoob clutch has a lot of work on it's plate ( no pun intended ) as standard . With no no-claims insurance would be £1000 plus . My recent renewal was £740 for a 37 year old , garaged in rural Lincolnshire named drivers full protected no-claims on a 2000my . Impreza Sports are nice enough cars but several rungs down from a turbo , ever thought of a Primera GT, awesome cheap car, reliable as cool weather in january and a bit different, 30+ mpg, superb handling . hope that helps

Insurance may be hell - check NOW before you even look for any cars! I'm 28 and my insurance is 850 quid (tracked, alarmed, garaged, rottweilered ) with FULL ncb.
The cars are quite expensive to run when you factor in fuel and insurance. Other things to bear in mind are tyres (300-400 quid a set), servicing (MAKE SURE THAT ANY CAR YOU BUY OF THAT VINTAGE HAS HAD IT'S 90K SERVICE AS THAT WILL HURT!) and the inevitable modification bug that will grip you
Do the sums, do work out how much it will be for servicing (7.5k mile intervals at 100 quid for small, 200 for medium, 350 for 30k, 500 for 45k...), work out insurance, fuel... Don't underestimate, otherwise you'll find yourself seriously struggling.
If you can afford it, take the leap. And make sure you get a good 'un as there's plenty for sale. Buy with your head, not your heart - I bought a Renault 19 16v with my heart when my head told me to walk away, and it was a complete nail that cost me over £2k in a year for parts and servicing...
Nick.

You cannot fit a towbar to an Impreza? hummmnm what is that black thing sticking out from under my bumper then? what a concidence that my trailer fixes onto it and the lights plug in?
Or was I missing the "You can't fit a towbar to an Impreza its criminal" comment?
Biggest bill you will have is petrol... they are not nice, although towing if on motorway at 65 you should be okay.
Just is you drive it hard you'll get low 20's... drive lightly and I have seen 30mpg... once or twice.
Insurance is going to be steap too, get a quote.. you'll probably go for the T5...
For 6K you could probably get a 95 to 96 Turbo...
Goodluck
Edited to say Impreza rather than Scooby.
