Sorry for the question guys but in the pub tonight the biggest **** you would no has been bragging all night about his 2008 porch boxter being the fasest car in the village, seriously would the 2.7/2.8 whatever it is boxter give an 03 plate 350 bhp impreza a run for its money? After all his talk im a bit worried.

NO !
If he's a good driver though he might give you a run for your money, unless you're also good I can keep up with many Scoobs in a diesel Skoda, depending on who's driving and what the weather is like

depends.some early boxsters were 2.5's and slower than uk turbo's. newer top of the range 3.2's will be quick but not 350 bhp scoob quick. ask him if he gets embarrassed driving a girls car. LOL

Doesnt matter how fast his car is, or how good a driver he is, he'll always have to live with the fact that he doesnt drive a proper Porsche, and the only reason he bought the Boxter is because he cant afford one.
Next time he starts, reel off a list of all the better / faster cars he could have got for the same price if he wasnt so interested in paying 50% more than the car should be just for the badge on there.

By any chance this guy wasn't wearing a pink shirt and sporting a bold patch was he? If he was a very good driver he might be faster than you yes but at the end of the day who cares! As said abouve the guy only bought a boxter because he cant afford a 911. pluss when it getts to summer and he's driving round with the top down everyone will think he is either a)GAY or b) A TOTAL TOSSER.

I think the "round the twisties" argument doesn't hold up in this case... the Boxter is quite a capable car (for a rag top) and would quite easily stick to an Impreza if there are corners involved... it is a mid engined sports car with a superb chassis remember (especially if it's 2006 or newer)... a few long straights would give you the cushion you'd require but he'd have an easier drive, just laking the oomph...

Just had a look at the Nurburgring Laptimes here
Subaru WRX STi Spec-C 8:06
Porsche Cayman S 8:10.08 (19 inch wheels, ceramic brakes)
I think these are more applicable (porsche's driven by same driver, doesn't state the driver of the impreza):
2004 Subaru Impreza 8:24 (I guess STi)
Porsche Cayman S 8:25
Porsche Boxster S 8:32
And those are the 'S' variety

Over 13 miles you're not talking much difference. If the OP's car matches a spec C time, and the 2.7 Boxter is say 10 seconds slower than an "S" Boxter... then you're talking 36 seconds over 13 miles, that's only 2.5 seconds quicker per mile with 100bhp more and a roof!.. The Boxter's no slouch for a rag... and still a drivers car whatever the "no point buying a cheap Porsche" gang say..

Have driven a stock MY03 STI and a Boxster S back to back and nothing in it really. 350bhp STI vs Std Boxster, I would think in pure straightline performance the STI would be quite noticeably faster. On a track I am not so sure, the Boxster is a very capable track tool in the right hands.

So when chav man comes along side you in his Corsa with a red top turbo under the bonnet... which cost him 3k total to build...and smokes your *** off the lights... do you say ..
"oo I wish I had his motor...what great performance for the money"
ha ha..
It's all relative.... The porsche is better built..better made and nearly as quick...and I'm sure he's quite happy with his choice of motor... I'd still be in my Cayman if I didn't need a 5 door... It was like a go cart to drive... smiles per mile were ten fold the STI

No doubt. However the original thread just asked which was quicker

Loads of variables here tbh.
All the slaters of Boxsters, whilst it maybe a hairdressers car/gay car blah de blah, on a dry road a lot of Scoobies would struggle on 'the twisties'.
The Boxster has arguably better handling than the 911, as it is mid engined. i used to drive both back to back, my 250 bhp Classic Scoob and a buddies 2.5 Boxster, my Scoob was quicker in a straight line with loads more midrange but when it come to bends despite my car being modded the Boxster had handling finesse a Scoob could only dream about - and as for the brakes.
Dont go taking on the 3.2s - especially on a straight road, they do nigh on 170mph.
I'm not knocking Scoobs as i had one and loved it but the Boxster was designed as a sports car from the ground up and is a very capable car.
I gave my mate a lot of p**s taking when he bought it, then i drove it!!!!
I'd buy one tommorrow if i could.
Anyway back to the original post.
You must bear in mind that a Subaru is a sprint car, if your going up against a 2.7 and you have a genuine 350bhp STi i dont think you'll have a problem - up to 70mph anyway
