![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I've been long thinking on a way to sell cars quickly and easily.
I've just come up with an idea which to me seems perfectly acceptable, and to the best of my knowledge is not against the law.
A Raffle. As simpy as that. E.g. I have a car that owes me £5k for example. I sell 500 tickets for a tenner each or 5000 for a £1 and then hold a draw,
I get my money fior the car, and someone wins a car very very cheaply.
Is there anything that wouldstop me from doing this?
Clearly the draw would have to be witnessed and documented to disprove any wrongful doings, but that the only tricky bit I can forsee.

A mate of mine did this a while back with a pretty expensive moutain bike. Basically he bought it brand new, then a couple of weeks later he broke his neck (not on the bike, surfing). Anyways, he got hold of a reel of tickets and sold them for 2 quid each. He then had a web cam type thing in which he pulled the winning ticket out of the hat ( along with a couple of whitneses). and hey presto - I think he even made a bit on what he bought if for originally too!! Good idea me thinks, but you've gotta have the rules set out in black and white before you sell one ticket mate!!

True, but to the best of my knowledge it wouldnt be approved and its massively impractical financially. The OP and others are plainly talking about unregulated and illegal lotteries though.

This, of course, is why so many TV and radio shows have competitions in which they ask a stupidly easy question; by incorporating a test of skill, however trivial, their phone-in is no longer a 'lottery' in the legal sense.
Personally I suspect you'd find it a whole lot more straightforward to stick an ad in Auto Trader, though. Then you only have to find one buyer, not 5000.

there was story in the news a little while ago about an old couple who sold off tickets to have there house. Think they was selling tickets for something likes £50 each but only had about 10,000 tickets for sale.

a five grand second hand car may not be that attractive to the majority of people but a new one would be..best sell it in the autotrader and have done with it

Sorry but you are wrong.
It is legal to hold a draw as long as there is a question for entrants to answer along the lines of, for example, "Which driver won the World Rally Championship in 1995?".
Correct entries are placed in a container and the draw is made.
This is a well documented and legal way of moving anything on provided, of course, you sell enough tickets.

And if you had known about the the need for a question - and you clearly did not - you could have told him instead of just repeating unhelpful and inaccurate remarks which anyone could sort out with a quick Google in moments.
Now go and boil your head for 4 minutes, crack the top and eat your brains . . . . only yoking!

They do this in airports for ferrari's etc. Pay £50 or so for a ticket. However once you've bought the ticket, you have to do a 'spot the ball' competition or something similar to keep it legal.

Main problem is that you will have to set a date for the draw - its no good saying that you will only do the draw once all 500 £10 tickets have been sold, as that could take years.
Then what happens if by the draw date you have only sold 50 tickets ? are you going to let the car go for £500 ?
For something only worth £5000 put it on Ebay or in Autotrader and dont bother mucking around with raffles or draws.

Why not do it with the bonus ball on the lottery and sell the numbers for £100 each? (£4900)
Set a date for which the draw will be on and then everyone knows that the draw wasnt fixed.
I would be wary buying raffle tickets over the internet lol

A bloke I know did this for his house..a really big house worth a lot of money.
He ended up in prison for 4 years.
It was about 20 years ago and if I recall correctly, it went something like this.
He was selling tickets for £50 a pop and there was a question with a choice of three answers. Anyway, the question was a bit vague and put people off buying tickets so he put the answer in the local paper. As a result the police closed his raffle down. Only problem was, he didn’t record the names of all the peeps that had bought tickets so had no way of refunding them or in fact, exactly how much cash was actually taken.

A bit of research on t'internet will point you in the right direction. The law had to be changed to allow the national lottery. Local government lotteries have to be registered and the process is protracted and expensive. Adding an element of skill might see you on the right side of the law but itll be a minefield I think.
