Default STI 2.0 or 2.5

Folks I am new to the scene and am looking to purchase a 2005- present STI, I have been looking for info on the 2.5 and the 2.0 engine. I would like to start with 300hp and start my tuning from there. Any suggestions?

Many thanks

As they come out of the box the 2.5 has more torque available and hence the power will be more useable - however if you're aiming for over 350 bhp then you should be aware that the 2.5 doesn't have forged pistons whereas the 2.0 does which means you'll pay more in the long run with the 2.5 if you want to go beyond around 350...

Obviously totally ignoring the age of the car etc in the equation

Look at a JDM 2.0, better engine and turbo 300 hp standard easy to tune, took me ages to decide but i know i made the right choice,

Check out my JDM STI Litchfield Type 20 for sale in private cars for sale. This would give a great platform to start performance tuning.

If you want big BHP I would say the 2.0, but as stated the 2.5 has a lot more torque and it can use it. The 2.0 is more laggy and the power comes in spikes. The 2.5 STi engine is actually good to 400bhp on standard internals, not 350bhp. I'm running 360/390 on a moderate level map for the modifications.

I would say test drive both to see what suits your driving style.

Funny how most of the big power cars are running 2.5's though

Std EJ257 engine is good for 400 bhp if mapped well.
