my mate's way for getting cheap insurance
hello,
i just met up with one my old buddies frm school who's got an my03 wrx turbo and was shocked to find out he only pays £330 fully comp insurance at the age of 24. he's even been stopped by police and its all clear evertime. how he's done it is that when insuring the car by giving the reg num it would abviouly come up as a wrx turbo but he told them its just a gx awd instread of a turbo. this way he got cheap insurance and the vehicle is on the insurance database as being insured on askmid.com he's even got pulled over by cops and they done insurance checks and came as insured. i knw my m8's being a big idiot by doing this as insurance will neva pay out if he made a claim, but he's answer was, m8 i got so many engine mods on the car that insurance will not payout even if i insured it as a wrx turbo, lol. we'll i thought thats true cuz insurance wont pay out if u do any mods to the engine. but what i was thinking is when he gets pulled over by cops dont they check the vehicle model with the insurance database and match it to the vehicle my mate is in or do they just do an insurace check on the registration plate? i dont know if anyone else has done this but it was quite strange for me to hear that. lol

I think your mate is walking on very thin ice
It might come up as insured when the cops do a check but he might of just got lucky. If he did have a serious accident and say some one got hurt he will get found out and they will throw the book at him,
If I was you I would not follow his lead.

1. Don't take a ride in your friends car- If he stacks it, and you get hurt you won't get compensation (If he can't afford to insure it properly, he won't pay thousands for physio etc)
2. Ask him to re-consider what he is doing. He IS uninsured, he HAS made a false declaration, and he is putting others at risk by doing what he is doing.
I guess you wanted a reaction by posting what you did, well, you got one!

What would hapen say if he hit me and it was HIS fault and the insurance check both car and mine was good and his was bad. Would they still pay out for mine? as technically his insurance would be void??

Might as well not pay for insurance at all the way he's going
As said, if he's been pulled before and not been caught, it's plain luck, or he's 'bigging himself up'. I pity the fool

what are you going to do if he ran yr wife or children over. who are you going to claim from- given he has no insurance.
plenty of coppers know scoobys-- its a matter of time.
particuarly if the police interceptors get him !!!!

Why, If people are doing things as stupid as this, then its right for us to comment. Even if one person is put off doing something so daft it would be worth it.
Lets also be honest, their are many scooby drivers on this forum doing the same thing by driving with undeclared mods.

I'd rather know who the fool is.
on barryboys we have an entire thread for non declared engine swaps etc.
i.e 999 cc corsa to a 2 litre etc
that get declared to DVLA etc, ditto road tax.
mind you - you can just see the car now- it'll be some pikey heap of scrap that looks like its crashed into halfrauds shop window.
it'll be obvious !
