Default air filter question

my near standard wrx import has a apexi induction kit fitted, i,ve been told this can fry the mass air flow sensor ,so i,ve panic bought a standard air box from e-bay , now i,m thinkin have i made a mistake ?, will the induction kit really cause any damage ?, and also will i see a reduction in power if i fit the standard airbox with a hi-flow panel filter ? cheers thanks for your help

if you use charge oil on your filter this can damage your maf,i had a green cotton panel filter before my cone filter ,and the only noticable difference was the noise it made, certainly not worth the cost of replacing my shagged maf (£290).

to be honest you won't really benefit the performance if you get an aftermarket induction kit until its remapped. only thing you'll get is better noise and it could even use up more petrol

I've had an Apexi cone on my 93 wrx for 5 years now and the maf is fine and since you don't oil these filters i wouldn't worry too much.
The only thing you haven't said is what year your car is as the earlier mafs are a lot sturdier than most.

you have weak mafs on ver5 and ver6, I'm changing my blitz air filter to a apexi one after reading the tests they have done on them, and sick of going through mafs,

would put a standard one on, but it didnt come with one and cant find one on ebay to fit

Air boxes are better with a good filter imho I have a air box with a K&N panel filter and has been spot on all the time.

std paper the way to go IMHO far superior filtration. I would challenge anyone to tell the difference.

These mafs are relatively sturdy but since you've bought the standard box give it a go see what you think as no matter what advice we give it is your car after all
