Hi All

We're running a live test on Saturday of the new Timing and GPS tracking equipment to be used on the World Rally Championship later this year.

It will entail running a mock-rally at slow speeds (like 30MPH or something) with the WRC GPS tracking and crew consoles fitted to a number of cars and running them through the stages around the prodrive (test track) site at warwick.

The driving side won't be any fun at all as it will all be slow speed to conform to health and safety, but I've asked if members of scoobynet could come along and get involved and it's been approved.

There will be a briefing at first on how it will all run, and then it's off to the rally start one by one. Some people will be asked to check into stage arrivals late or early, some people will be asked to cross the start beam early to simulate jump starts, etc, etc.

The results will be fed automatically to the WRC Mission Control Vehicle (huge silver truck with electronics in it!!!! ) and to a simulated Rally HQ, and then up to an isolated test version of WRC.com

All in all it should be a giggle and a chance to see the new equipment running before anyone else.

So if you would like to do it or would like more info, let me know in this thread.

It would be ideal if you could bring a co-driver along as well.

All the best

Simon

Simon,

If you don't mind a Ford on the stage, I would be interested.

Would the event invalidate your insurance, as it's a timed event ?

Would love to help!

Does it matter if my competition licence isn't up to date? (err, joke!)
Would make a change to drive, rather than reading the route! Count me (and co-driver) in!

Cheers.

Hi Guys

We're checking on numbers now, but it looks like we might have it cracked.

No problem with Fords or other cars coming along, but it looks like you are really going to need a co-driver.

There is also some space for people operating the new equipment (acting as marshalls, etc), so let me know if you would be up for that too.

I'll post another message when I have all the details.

All the best

Simon

OK...

Here are the details...

We have space for 18 cars, PREFERABLY with 2 crew (driver and co-driver) in each.

We also need about 10 - 15 people to operate the start lines, flying finishes and controls, etc (which means you get to play with the flashing stuff and press buttons and things!! ).

But in order to secure your place you will need to be able to confirm for definite that you will be able to be there saturday morning and send me your full name (along with the name of your co-driver) to simon@scoobynet.co.uk ASAP (first come first served, etc.)

The schedule of the day is as follows...

08:30 - 09:00 - Registration & Coffee
09:00 - 09:40 - Drivers Briefing
09:00 - 09:40 - Officials Briefing
09:00 - 10:00 - Install WRC In Car Kit in driver's cars
09:50 - Marshals In Position at Control Points
10:00 - Test Start
11:30 - Discussion & Lunch
13:00 - Test Restart
15:30 - Finish

Thanks for your support guys, it will be nice to think that we all had a part in making the new face of the World Rally Championship.

All the best

Simon, don't you also need a dry run on the continent afterwards to see if it all still works ? Say Belgium or thereabouts ? Different wall sockets & all that, you know what I mean

Damn, I wish I could come... car & puters & flashy new stuff & driving slowly. That's me !

Damn
