failed MOT....
been for one today and i failed on the nearside front lower ball joint and an advisory given for the offside ball joint as well.
my car has done 50,000 and they are both knackered. i think it may be good that they have worn equally but is it normal to need to do them at all?
i have heard a couple of big clunks under my car, a bit like a large stone flicking up, is the noise from the joints?
i have ordered as pair so the problem will be sorted soon

Hopefully not too expensive then!
Good luck with the repair, mine has just failed on the front breaks - Subau quoted £900 for disks and pad parts only!!
I have since taken it to my local garage and it will be re-MOT'ed on Saturday morning.

i had forgotten my MOT was due, it ran out in August
i have created another problem while i was there though....i had to attach a fog light as i have import rear lights, it was in the boot. all my lights have gone wrong or don't work now
ive ordered the joints now, £35 delivered, cant imagine it will cost too much at a garage to fit them.
i suppose i am lucky thats all thats wrong as i am as skint as bumholes

Ball joints fail from usage and age as well as just mileage. So its entirely how the car is driven. A car driven in a urban environment will succumb alot sooner than one driven on motorways.
Corrosion, bouncing up and down curbs (dare I mention that to a female member? ) , speed bumps and pothole being the main curlprits.
Nearside usually wears out before the offside, as thats the side that take more of a battering (re: curbs, so it seems you've been a good girl ). And yes, worn one can make clunking noisies when hitting bumps.
