Sti Version 8 info please.

Sti Version 8 info please/Are you selling soon? PM me if so!
Hello,
OK I did a search but found nothing conclusive. I am a moderator on a Type R forum and know how repetitive these sorts of posts can be!
This is the model I am seeking.
I currently drive an 03 CTR and I am looking to get an Sti version 8, I pondered this idea about a year ago when I had my DC5, I test drove a 53 plate Sti and loved it, not quite the same driving experience as a Type R's 'Vtec' but the lazy power was phenomenal.
If anyone can help me out with a few hints and tips of what to look for it would be most appreciated, I am looking at an 03-53 plate blue one with 30-50k miles ideally, PPP would be a bonus!
Any known issues/faults I need to be aware of?.
Also what are the service intervals like, again I have done a search but trying to filter through the results proved to be a right PITA! I am aware a belt change needs to be done at 50k miles?
Lastly what sort of price should I be looking at, I have seen them on pistonheads ranging from £7500-9500k, I guess condition will reflect the price
PPS if anyone is looking to change to a modified Civic type R then let me know!!

Hi, I'm probably not much help, but I bought an 03 plate, with FSH, 40 odd thousand miles, modded to around 350bhp, nice handling mods etc, for £8000. Which I think was very well priced. I wouldnt pay over 9
Yeah your right with the cam belt. 5 years or 50k......I've just had mine done as well.
The only problems which I've found with mine, is there is a small leak in to the boot....still finding out what this is, but it could be the boot lid seal, the bolts around the spoiler, or it might be my inter cooler bottle leaking. Not a big issue though. Also, my rocker cover gasket has an occasional leak in it...which i've read is quite common, but again, not a big or expensive issue!

I came from a BMW Compact 320D (150BHP), and before that a Fiesta ST.
I got it from a trader....sort of. It was a guy who just sells cars from home, but he took mine in part-ex.
Nope, no regrets what so ever to be honest. I only get about 200-250miles from a tank, but thats expected of course.

wow Type-R`s must be seriously hard work if you found the power delivery on a 2.0 STi to be lazy as its very ON/OFF. Something like a 335i or 330D is what id call smooth lazy power delivery.
The greater torque of the 2.5 STi`s make progress easier off boost.
The only regret I had with buying an MY03 STi is that I went for a PPP car and at the time this meant paying a little extra then a non PPP car at the same dealer. The PPP really is a lottery in regards to power figures, very hit and miss and there are a lot of cars that dont make anywhere near the prodrive claimed figures.
Solution? Buy a non PPP car and get yourself a high flow fuel pump, panel filter, a decent exhaust system and an ECUTEK remap. You will see in the region of 330bhp and not be playing the PPP Lottery.
Of course the above probably applies to existing owners of non PPP cars that were considering the PPP and less so to someone whos contemplating buying a car that already has it.
So my advice would be dont set your heart on a example just because it has PPP and go for your own exhaust, remap etc.
Also these cars eat rear shocks, its a known fault and my 34k example has had three pairs under warranty. something to be wary off as OEM STi shocks are very expensive.
Also Handling out of the box is a bit disappointing imho. Dont be put of by a car with uprated ARB`s, drop links, anti-lift etc as they are very worthwhile mods.

In regard to S3TH's post.....mine came with uprated ARB`s, drop links, anti-lift etc from the previous owner. So not sure how it would handle with them, but mine handles like a dream with new Eagle F1's on.

Thanks for the info
I take it people upgrade their shocks from OEM?
Are they happy to run on 95 ron or is it SUL all the way?
The car will only be used at weekends as I have a work car through the week
How much £££s are we talking here?
The trouble with Honda is that N/A tuning comes at a price, not a lot of BHP/£!

Ok regarding the shocks, im not 100% on this but Subaru may be using a later variant when replacing these now, can anyone confirm?
Also i think KYB AGX? Shocks are a same spec replacement and as far as I know dont suffer the same failure rate even though they are pretty much the same part?
Sorry im not being 100% concise, if you do a search there are a lot of threads on here re: STi shocks.
My Car has been mapped for V Power. Ideally you should run SUL all the time, but if you had to run 95 for whatever reason then i think you would only suffer from a loss of power rather then Det on a newage UK car. TBH I think its foolish to run anything other then SUL on a reasonably stressed 2.0 turbo engine.
ECUTEK remap around £500
Panel filter £30
fuel pump £115
Exhaust well you could get a reasonably could 3" decat system for £400+ or if you want something like a full TSL exhaust system with sports cat for £995.
The above should see you with around 330bhp up from the standard 265 or if its a PPP car you could retain the prodrive sports cat and just fit cat back system.
Good bang for buck with imprezas

what s3th is pretty much spot on, the only thing i'd say is that these cars are coming up for sale at such different amounts due to some more desperate to get rid than others. You would probably have good chance of picking up a modded one like chrisdicko has for the same price as a standard one if you look about.
judging by the pms you say you have a few on here are trying to sell you theirs already all i would add is the mods most make on these are arb's droplinks exhaust and remap, so don't be put off by a modded one (not saying you are) as your already on here you'll be doing it all anyway
Good luck and take your time mate there is some good cars about for very good money imho. If you have any q's just pm me, mines an 05 so pretty much the same but i started off with a standard ppp'd one and modded.

You're making the right move, Stu. I've done 23k on mine in the last year and every one has been a pleasure. I can get 360 from a full tank on motorway driving so they can be pretty frugal if you want them to be. I'm with the post about a non-PPP car. Yes you could get one and remap it but as already said, a good highflow cat (of which the Prodrive one is damn good) plus a fuel pump will open the doors to Andy Forrester or Bob R to remap a 2.0 to 350 or so. It's also more fun if you do it yourself, then it's really your car
