Thumbs up M1 - All lanes to be reopened for Christmas / New Year

Sounds good - maybe they'll finally remove those sodding SPECS cameras on the M1 now.... - they've made the government £21m in fines apparently - probably just about covered the cost of another kitchen for Gordon's house then .

Still, pi** taking aside, this should be good news for motorists over the Christmas period.

Too right mate - should also make life sooo much easier for all the poor sods who've had to bugger about with going up and down junctions near Hemel due to the stupid traffic flow some numpty came up with there during the roadworks.

I don't think it'll be much different to be honest. Widening did nothing for the M25 around Heathrow.

As I've said for years, making the motorway wider is like giving an alcoholic a bigger glass. What they need to look at is the way cars join the motorways as that's where all the bottle necks are created. If I knew the answer I'd be a millionaire

rubbish, its better lane control,,,,, i do alot of motorway journeys and you can see what causes it,,,,, its people on the inside lane notmoving over due to lorrys and the outside lane not moving to the middle and let other past !

4 lanes means 1 for lorrys, 1 for the middle lane peeps and another for the outside leaving me and all my other BMW friends to get back control of our lane

people not moving over causest he issues,,,,,, then we all get bunched up making it APPEAR like theres a traffic jam

oh and heathrow dont have traffic issues,,,, its AFTER that does !

comming INTO london its when you get to junction 14 that you start to hit traffic,,,,, ease that off and that will allow people to filter off

get past the M25 junction and all the traffic is gone,,,,, i almost lost my licence playing with a caymen on sunday from the M25 on m1 to mill hill,,,,,, i was VERY fast and then slowed for my junction,,,,, the car i slowed behind was old bill,,,, he was aproaching me quite fast to make it out,,,,, when i did i was dping 90 so could slow a little more but if i was getting off at brent cross i might have still been doing 75moh( )

I do about 20k a year and 10k of that is with work on motorways so I see much of the world the way you do. A lane for lorrys is a great idea but they wont stick to it the same way they didnt tonight while I was coming back up to notts from London. if people used the lowest lane available then it'll make more difference but now it'll just be another lane to use.

I'd love to believe it'll work but I really doubt it'll make it much better in rush hour.
