New member intro -- Crisco from Virginia
Hello,
I just wanted to introduce myself, i'm new on here. I have some experience with subies, my first one was a 2002 WRX wagon i bought brand new, and had for 6 years. Then I got a Saab 9-2X (wrx wagon clone) and had that for 2 years. Now, I am finally getting an STI, a 1999 JDM STI v5.
being that my mother was living in the US the day that I was born, I decided to stay for a bit and it has stuck -- somewhat. I did experiment a little and tried out Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Canada, and El Salvador (my wife's fault), where I now reside, but I still go back to Virginia every month and plan on making it my permanent home again sometime the end of this year.
I have never been across the pond, but I plan on making the trip sometime (as soon as they build me a bridge so I can drive across LOL).
I've been active on NASIOC for a few years, and found some good friends in Canada as part of the Peelers Pit Crew.
Best wishes,

Welcome
Some nice cars there and your new v5 looks good!
Just watch the V5/6 STI's though, MAF's are weak along with a lean spot on the map i take it your getting her remapped anyway?

I like subies, Rallyes, and anything that goes fast on 4 wheels.
My favorite place to drive:
The tail of the dragon - 318 curves in 11 miles...

Yes, since our gas is very poor compared to Japan's (and also the aftermarket exhaust), I am going to get a custom tune done as soon as I can. I want to keep it relatively mild (similar to stock power levels) since I do not plan on upgrading anything else for now. I have driven a 2006 US STI and this one feels a bit faster... maybe the lower weight, or my imagination???
anyways, i'm excited to go pick her up and get used to shifting with my left hand

yes, in San Salvador, most roads are anything but smooth ... the road up on the volcano I posted above was a surprise to me as well.
That Snake pass looks like a blast! He even knocked the camera back from accelerating too fast at one point!
at least on a bike you don't have to put the steering wheel on one side or the other, they are more universal

Nice cars!
Good to see more from across the seas on here. There was a recent thread on the "saabaru" here - https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...3-saabaru.html
I never knew such a thing existed and at first thought it was a paintshop pro job! I think they would have gone down well in the UK.

but the only part i wasn't overly fond of was the styling... for the same reason I flew under the radar, it just never grew on me, i kept wanting my bugeye wagon back. although MAINLY it's whats under the skin that counts, there is still an important ego-factor (not in a bad way). people like cars that look good. and while it looks good, it's not as much my style. i'm more of a subaru person. but i got the car for a killer deal and it had 160,000 miles fewer than my bugeye so it was a no-brainer at the time.
my wife is completely in love with it, and i don't know if she'll ever forgive me for selling the saabaru. she certainly will not be a fan of the new v5 which is fine cause it's my car not hers.
if i could afford to (i probably could but you know- blame it on the economy), it would be nice to keep it for the wifey but she's been on me about getting a minivan so whatever. maybe next year i'll surprise and get another saabaru, this time with leather and a sunroof!
BTW -- they have their own forum too, you know... Saab92x.com . not a bad bunch of guys. although a dying breed
[edit: appears you've already seen the saab92x.com site -- oops!]

Thanks! so, an update, I have been putting lots of miles (mostly curvy ones!) on the car and it's amazing. it scrolls up very quickly. loves to rev. handles great but i need to raise it/tweak the suspension.
I got some JIC coilovers I'm putting on as soon as I can find the time. the tires rub the inner fenders slightly on hard turns or in the compression (bumps). The roads around me are nice and smooth from a surface point of view, but have quite a bit of undulations up and down...
It also needs to get tuned soon. The plan is mid-June.
I need to figure out what sparkplugs to run in this. NGK coppers but what is the part number for JDM motor? i'll look around and post the question in the technical section.
[Edit: found the info here, searching works!! https://www.scoobynet.com/drivetrain...rsion-5-a.html
cheers!
