Skyline escapee...
Hello Scooby people...
I have escaped from the Skyline Owners Club to post on here looking for some very basic advice/opinions. I have looked through loads of old posts, but was hoping for some more specific help.
I'm off soon to drive into Europe for a few weeks, and have decided that something like an Impreza WRX, Legacy or Forester Turbo would be more practical than my 400hp 2WD Skyline, and more fun/useful than my Mazda6 Turbo Diesel
I want some decent power as the whole idea of the trip is to enjoy myself , but it also needs to be practical and comfortable as I'll be doing thousands of miles round the French Alps and down into the mountains of Italy.
I'm looking at spending up to around £4000...
So what does everyone reckon?
I drove an '02 WRX this afternoon and quite liked it, although it didn't feel as quick as I expected (runs and hides).

What worries me is that with a big bore exhaust, induction kit etc, it will be pretty noisy for a long road trip of thousands of miles.
Thanks for the link though.
I'm getting interested in some 280hp twin turbo legacy's though

The twin turbo's have something called 'VOD' (valley of death). The first turbo stops spinning at 3000rpm then the second cuts in at 4000rpm. You have no turbo in between!! This is the VOD
Its not ideal and feels as if you've hit a brick wall at 3k rpm. Dont get me wrong, theyre flying machines after 4000rpm but that meand you have to drive everywhere at the redline.
Also its not ideal when you go to overtake, change down a gear, pull out and.........nothing happens caus your in the VOD.
Have you thought about an older M5?

Just to say thanks for the comments, and after weebell's VOD comment I steered clear of the twin turbo and bought '53 plate 3.0l Legacy Outback with Tiptronic, cruise control, full leather and all the toys... which should make the 4-6,000 mile drive round Europe much more comfortable
I have sort of got an urge for the Impreza when I get back though, and will be looking at the STi after I sell the Legacy.
