whats the best imprezza to go for budget of 15k
thinking of changing my car to a scoob never had one before but been in a uk classic imprezza 208bhp one a few year back seemed quite good!currently driving a boxster 3.2s not very fast imho so looking for something with more go and less show i hear the sti is the performance version of the imprezza any opinions on what models to seek out?
when did the 2.5 litre come into effect is it any better than the 2litre?
i like all models after the bug eye.
thanks

for me the 22b is the ultimate impreza but is a little over your budget, but i also like type ra-r (and spec c) , and after that wr1.....you have soooooooo many very good editions of the sti that you'd be spoilt for choice. have a look Subaru Impreza WRX STI - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

i normally post on other marques and non scoob related hence i dont know too much about subarus but thinking i want a car that puts a smile on my face when driving it and always looking forward to the drive home!!
hawkeyes what years are they produced on?
with jap cars have i got to keep adding octane booster or can i get away with super unleaded any other ways around it?
what about the uk scoobs they run on normal super is that right?
do people take their imports to uk dealers for servicing or repairs?
whats the common problems which affect the uk and jap cars?
how much is a service and how often?
thanks

hawkeyes arrived in 2006(a few 55 plates knocking around)
no really want to comment on JDM cars,as ive always gone for type uk's
type uks run just fine on shell v-power etc
uk cars service interval is every 12,000 or 12 months i believe and will be cheaper then the porker to service

You don't have allot of choice if going for a JDM car as whenever I have looked there have only been 15 or so available throughout the country where as you have a choice of about 250-300 uk cars.
JDM cars tend to have less millage than the uk car equivalent.. i.e mine has done a measly 28k. Obviously the JDM is more spec'd up than Uk and I think it will hold its value better for that reason as well as the fantastic engine previously mentioned.
Servicing all depends on the owners preference, are you mechanically skilled.?? If so buy the service parts yourself and keep all the receipts and notes of millage etc on when bits were fitted / changed. If not then its no more expensive than the UK equivalent.
I buy my oil etc from the oilman (opieoils) and Genuine pink STI filters from TSL, that costs me about £65 -£70 every 5k and i take about 7-8 months to do that millage. Gear oils etc are slightly more but then you dont change those anywhere near as often.
look for one that has been remapped for UK fuel if that bothers you but v-power is fine that's all I have ever run mine on and I've had no problems at all.

One of the local boys had a V5 type R that used to go through them very reguarly (used 2 or 3 in one trip to santa pod) he fitted a standard air box back on it and never had a problem again.
As for the OP's orginal question really depends what the car is going to be used for and what he want out of it.

That depends how desperate the seller gets in the absence of buyers. In the current climate, a guy who's just been made redundant with a big mortgage, debts and little savings may have to take what he can get as quickly as possible if the outlook isn't too good. I wish I was considering buying right now ! Remember the TG boys talking about people selling £60k+ exotica and supercars for fractions of their previous value ?
