Default WRX vs STi track car

This has probably been done to death... hopefully not.

Basically trying to determine if its worthwhile going for an STi over a WRX if most things are going to get replaced anyway?

The priorities for the build, would be:

1. safety
2. weight
3. handling
4. braking
5. POWER!

Sadly, in that order...

I am budgeting to rebuild the engine, ideally not straight away. Would like to get the other things sorted before doing that.

The will be a classic wagon (v3/4), something slightly different, allows easier access for the cage to be put in, and allows me to carry more spare (or ripped off bumpers) in the car.

I am also considering a wide body kit....

Thoughts, comments?
