fuel economy
hi all
i have just purchased my first scooby so am very new to this.
ive been interested in them for about the last 7 or 8 years and finally got one. purchased a 2002 sti prodrive very excitedly. however when i was talking to the fella about fuel economy he said if you drive it sensibly you get about20-25 per gallon which i thought was good considering my saxo( yes i own a saxo ) does about this, but then he said if you put your foot down he said i would probably get 8-10. this cant be right surely. must admit though, the sound and feel is awsome and love does come at a price.

you would have to drive at full nuts to get those low figures and it would probably be only possible on a track day. you can expect mid 30's on a motorway if your steady on the go faster pedal and mid 20's on normal roads.I got somewhere in the region of 38mpg on my last wrx on a run down to London

are you saying expect 120-150 per tank with foot down. ....sure its worth it though. can see me seriously getting hooked and throwing all my spare cash at the car. only drove it for half an hour and dont pick it up untill the morning but allready spent 600 on a stereo and dump valve and another 800 on some wheels and tyred if the pcd is the same as mine

Fuel Economy?
Got my WRX before santa came to visit..... Fuel Economy!!!!! it has none. But it's still worth it. My last car was a petrol 3 series that could do 450+ miles off a tank. The scooby does about 250-300 if you take it easy.... but it's just too easy to get to the speed limit quickly.
V-Power or Tesco's 99 seems to be whats recommended for them on the forums, as i always used shell that isn't a problem while the price is what it is now (there have been times when i'm glad i walk to work though).
Apart from all that enjoy the car, i know i am.

If you are worrying about fuel consumption then you have bought the wrong car
for the record i get 230 miles/tank out of my Spec C and that has the smallest tank of them all

oh well. what the hell. im gonna fill her up tommorrow and go enjoy my self. cant wait.
is it worth getting into the club scene.
i bought a jetski in the summer without knowing any other skiers, joined a forum and now go out with at least 30 other skiers, and met many new helpful friends. i'm assuming the scooby community is just as friendly.

Welcome mate and go for it. I have a blob STi PPP. Can get about 25 mpg at best on a motorway run.
Driving like a granny will only get you 1-2 mpg extra so you might aswell have a bit of fun . To get 8-10 mpg you are talking track day. I get about 20 mpg from mine as the norm - no m-way, not racing everywhere but having my share of fun.
Enjoy

6 mpg on track (340 bhp lead wellies !) have recently managed 300 miles to a tank, but now the exhaust is fixed, I'm down to 23 mpg mixed mileage, no Elvington speed runs tho'.

Driving my RA-R sensibly gets me around 220 miles per tank and no more (don't forget that the Spec C has a 50 litre tank, whereas a standard STI has a 60 litre).
Using the go pedal a lot though can half that easily and then some.

I probably get about 230 miles to a tank - which is around £50 worth of V power at the mo(was almost £60 when fuel was really expensive)
I've had 400 miles to a tank on a motorway journey though.

i find the Impreza's have a "startup Tax"
i.e -- i used to drive mine 200 miles a day, for 8 months, started once in the morning going to work and once in the evening going home
I would often get 380 to a tank
but if over the weekend I did a few stop start journey's -- say 10 - 15 miles each the MPG would plummet, every time I switched the car on I could see the needle getting lower on the guage

Steady 68mph for 320 miles home from Devon got me 32.25mpg. Average driving was about 22-24. A Dales blast down 'round 17 and under 12 on track.
It's the one big thing I don't miss about the Scoob. Just on our annual family holiday our new car (Octavia TDi) saves us over £200 on fuel. On track, my little Furby holds its own and manages 25, and up to 65 on the road. Still miss the Scoob like I'd miss my gentleman's vegetables though

i get about 26-30mpg in 2.5 modded WRX driving normally on long runs (about same as my old lexus is200), and av 22-25 on mixed driving. any car will get low single figure mpg with foot on the floor, my brothers tt shows 5mpg on his fuel computer foot to the floor (he av's 27mpg). my dad's 2.5 diesel A4 auto shows about the same with foot to the floor. (av's 36mpg). the thing is you can only drive foot on the floor for a short period of your overall journey (unless you are on a track of course).
