Only just had the car for 3 weeks everything seemed fine until it was frosty last week. Car would not start!!! After loads of switching on and off of the alarm and immobiliser it finally started, but it has done the same every moring that it has been frosty. Then this morning it's not frosty and it does it again!!
We are convinced it is the immobiliser as we overode it this morning and it started. Has anyone else ever had this problem before?

Hi there
No had this my self
How old is the car?
I know some people have had starting problems due to the cam postiton sensor gouing faulty, although i would not have thought that the weather would effect it, having said that the cold brings out the worse in car electrics.

Did it turn over but not fire?

I've had this a couple of times (MY2000 car) and only when it's been windy and very wet. Fix each time was liberal amounts of WD40 all over the spark plug cables, especially at each end, and a bit just generally sprayed around the engine. It seems to be moisture collecting somewhere. Eventually I got the dealers to have a look - they couldn't find anything, but just pulled out and reseated all the HT cables and it hasn't happened since.

If you're having problems, remember not to touch the throttle though as this will cow everything up .

Cheers
Richard

Yes it turns over but wont fire and it only does it when it's frosty.
We will check out the HT leads and let you know if it starts tomorrow morning.
Thanks

DOH!! I got it wrong, it turns over and fires but won't start, we definately think it's the immobilser too.

Pmortlock what did you do about yours?
Thanks

But the immobiliser cuts power to the fuel pump, doesn't it? Therefore it can't fire? If it fires, but never catches, then the crank sensor is more likely to blame...
