If you have your own ramp then servicing wont cost you that much, but it has to be done very regular, and there are more things to service (diffs, gearbox etc) so that increases the cost, then add on the super unleaded fuel and maybe some octane booster, cambelts are not cheap, parts in general will cost more than you think, 27 quid, if the filter is incorrect or you do something wrong when servicing and the car doesnt like it, thats just as much as the car cost you!
These cars can be very fickle things, and they cost a fair bit more to run than your average hot hatch

just coz its £27 doesn't meen its cheap cr*p, he prob just got a god deal, mobil 1 oil is a great oil an is recomened for a scooby, u can buy 6 litres of that an a filter for £31.65

try this place,
Car Oil & Filter service packs

the catch is that u got to change ur oil every 3000 miles, an it drinks fuel like mad, but if ur worried about mpg ur not gonna buy a scooby, its worth every penny,

happy motoring m8

Mobil 1 is ok, not exactly great but ok (motul is much much nicer ), service intervals are 7.5k or 6 months and if the wrong filters are used you can have issues there
Scoobs can be fickle, as i stated before

The oil and filter I bought are what my local scooby specialist recommends and the air filter is a genuine Subaru part, as i said, £27 the lot!
I was advised by my local scooby specialist that the service period is 7.5k miles but 5k would be far better if you are driving it hard, is there any good reason to suggest i should change at 3k, this is a standard car!
It was also mentioned that I might not have as much horsepower as I thought, I believe it is 276bhp, am I wrong?
Many thanks

Correct. I change my oil at 7.5k but I use fully synthetic. I would half that interval with semi synthetic. Mobil 1 isnt very popular on here, I use Millers CFS or Silokolene Pro S. I wouldnt loose any sleep over it though the most important thing is that you got the got the correct grade, I.e
10w 40/50/60.

Why do you think Scooby drivers wave and smile at one another when we pass on the road? Smug in the knowledge that we are driving something that could give much more expensive cars a kicking. Bit like a secret club when you were a kid.

Sounds about right to me ....

Oil Filter, Subaru, £5

Oil Comma 10W-40 Semi, £13

Air Filter, Blueprint, £5

Actually, that's £23 ......£27 does seem rather expensive on second thoughts

cars do loose power with age. whatever the brochure said in 1997- you haven't got that now.

anyway- yes for £2.5K lots and lots of fun. if you can manage the fuel costs, tax and ins- yr laughing.

When I changed places for my servicing the new garage made a point of saying the oil filter wasn't genuine. He advised never to use anything else other than genuine parts.

Oil Filter .... yes. no point when Subaru only costs £5.

Air Filter .... I 'think' there was a big difference in price so probably worth not using Subaru parts - 'Blueprint' are respected in the trade.
