After the precedent set by Croft losing their appeal at the beginning of this week times are going to get tough for a lot of the smaller circuits.
I am afraid they may have opened the flood gates for noise nuisance cases against many of our favourite UK venues

one way to shut these dogooders up would be to question what would be granted by way of planning afterwards...
Where I am presently working for example, planning was strenuously objected to by the local residents for an ALDI supermarket next door to our development, the NIMBY locals were feeling all smug until the government stated in court that should ALDI fail at appeal then a young offenders institute would be given the green light immediately after.
Locals all rallied and are now champions for the ALDI cause.
So, if a rumour was to be started that something less than desireable would be put in its place then you might find objections are fewer and fewer until the cause dies completely.
That Combe petition is donkey's old btw

It's probably accurate to state that race tracks are getting used more today than they have in the past. In the past, race meetings, private company/team testing, the odd club or magazine meet. Apart from the race days, most other noisey activity would be confined to working hours during the week.
If you add trackdays to the above, you probably find that most/all weekends now have some form of noisey activities. Noise occurs more regularly during the day and during the weekend and probably on both days of the weekend.
IMO if long term home owners and residents complain of the noise then maybe they have a point. Maybe they're point is that these days, it's hard to find any day on the weekend when there is NOT noise from the track.

IMHO you should not be allowed to move into the vicinity of anything be it a church and complain about the bells, a farm and complain about the **** crowing, an airport or a race circuit and then complain about the noise of the activities there.

The Castle Combe petition is out of date but this thread is VERY topical due to Court of Appeal ruling against Croft on Monday. It is front page news on this weeks Motorsport News and the MSA have vowed to do everything in their power to help Croft overturn the ruling.

The other area it will probably impact on is testing. Thruxton for example already only have I think 2 Test Days a year due the number of days of noisy running they are restricted to.
Then at Donington Park you have the ridiculous situation where for BTCC and BGT/F3 the test day is on Thursday with a 'dead' day on Friday with the race weekend over the Saturday and Sunday because they are not allowed 3 consecutive days of noisy running. This is a phenomenal waste of time and money for teams as it is usually impractical to travel home for the one day meaning extra hotel and food costs etc.,.. not to mention time off work for those who racing is not also their every day job. (At pretty much every other circuit the race weekend is Friday/Saturday/Sunday)

Thought I signed something similar a few years back. IIRC its was mostly a few newcomers to the village kicking up a fuss. Was unaware Croft was under threat.
I'm near Dunsfold where Top Gear is filmed - theres been loads of complaint about car noise during filming and at weekends. In this case its from people who can't remember the Harriers that used to be built and tested there.

wonder how many people are gonna try jumping on the bandwagon? .... in theory the ruling could be applied to all kinds of other scenarios too i guess .... it's not enough that we're rapidly becoming a big brother police state, now we're rapidly on target to become a litigation capital catering to whims of ignorant, small minded, selfish and arrogant individuals who believe the world revolves around and should bow down before them and their jaded, biased opinions .... so much for the "free country" bit
