I know what you mean about gritting the roads, none have been done here either!
I'd stick to the alloy bonnet, cheaper(you need to spend big money for a good carbon one), easyer to maintain, and like you say usually lighter. Put the money towards carbon accesories such as scoops, mirrors, etc.
Just my thoughts....

tbh the cash aint that much of a issue as such, i love my car as its cost soo little to ACTUALLY maintain, the crash is a pisser though but i was gonna get a later front bumper anyway, the bonnet had a dent on it too that i was gonna get sprayed and i need a new rear bumper
ive just spent a few quid on it getting the suspension all done, i dont mind spending a grand on it tbh, it will end up mint again too when done,,, just need it done before track day

if you want one, get one!!! (jus keep your ally bonnet in the garage......)

Ouch! Sorry to see that.
Parts can be had cheap, i got my alloy facelift bonnet, in white for £150, headlights £40, grill £30, facelift bumper complete(need to pick it up, and paint) £100. Just keep an eye out. The slam panel and cross member i have no idea!

japperformanceparts.co.uk do ally bonnets for £250 without the grilles and £300 with, they might have everything you need.
the cheapest cf bonnet i'v found is £500 but it is only a cf skin over glassfibre
i managed to do a 180 in the snow today, was only going about 5mph , the road wasn't much wider than the length of my car, amazed i didnt even hit the cerb

personally i would go alloy, unless your going to paint the carbon white, carbon bonnets are a bit too much look at me on a white car, alloy is lighter as well
