Weird behaviour with dash lights
Hi guys,
hopefully somebody can help
My old battery needed replacing and when I put in the new fully charged battery the car seems to be stuck in some reset scenario - something keeps tripping. As a result the lights on the dashboard flash rapidly and the alarm keeps going off.
Weirdly my car has a white loom from which one wire goes to each battery terminal via a fuse and then the other end plugs in somewhere. I did break one end as I was changing them over but did mend the circuit so there is no breakage.
I need to take the car to the garage but cant move it as i can't turn the engine.
Might be worth pointing out that on the old battery (not holding charge) would work if you jumped it and left it running. As soon as ytou unpluigged the jump leads the electric's die again.
Hopefully somebody can help - need to take the car to the MOT station and also to local Scooby garage for some work

I would try the old battery again with a jump start to see if the car will start.
If it does start the problem could be the new battery.
If it doesn't start the wire you broke may have something to do with the
problem and needs to be looked at again. Even disconnect it and see what happens. A wire going to each battery terminal via a fuse sounds like something that has been added on. I take it the fuse was only on the positive wire terminal ?
Apologies if you have tried the above.
Regards,
Gus.

Ok - tried the jump start and alarm displayed same behaviour!
Apparently I may have spiked my alarm? (Sigma) !!
Is there any way of checking? Failing that - how can I disable the alarm/unwire it?
Thanks

think they are to do with the alarm? Ivan at Foresters (local Scooby specialist) reckons they ar the result of after-market wiring?
The only after-market thing on the car is the Sigma alarm which I believe is fitted by IM/Subaru in the UK and disabling of the one in the keys? Technically its factory fitted but Ivan hasn't got a clue what the wires are for.
Its a three core wire coming from the loom: Earth has been chopped. One wire via 15a fuse to (+) terminal and one wire thru 7.5a fuse to (-) terminal!
strange!

just spken to motorguard who do **** loads of scooby alarms here inthe midlands and they say they've never seen a sigma alarm with power taken from the battery.
The thing is that when I disconnect the unidentified leads (take fuses out) the alarm still sounds so it can't be feeding power to the alarm can it??

Many years ago I had a car,not a Scooby, with a "professionally" fitted alarm which I'm pretty sure was a Sigma system. A previous owner had the system installed and it had not been well done.
I ended up getting it replaced as it would cut in at the most inopportune moments when out driving.
The unit was located in the passenger side bulkhead under the carpet and until it was replaced it was overridden by with a piece of wire between two points (holes) on a connector on the alarm system. If I remember correctly there were around 8 points on the connector and shorting out 2 and 6 disabled the system. As I said this was many years ago and the system may be different to yours also the connector details may be incorrect due to the fact it was so long ago.
If you can locate the alarm model number it might be worth posing the question on Google as to how or if it can be overridden in the short term to allow you to start the car.
Gus.

ok - got somewhere:
the battery had been drained between all the messing around.
When I plugged in a fresh charged battery car worked as it should, ie. all electrics worked, no lights flashed, central locking worked etc.
The only thing was the override code on the alarm wouldn't work - keypad just flashed back at me
I am getting somethere - just need a kick the final way lol
