Talk to me guys

Scrapped the lets turbo the sport idea.
Going to buy a WRX ( is this the cheapest one to insure) got a quote for £1050 FOR a wrx
Have about £2k to spend and will then SELL my beloved WR1 blue sport
Any help would be great. I put the thread in general as i have some wquestions
What should i look out for when going to see one... I havent had a turbo before
I know my way around a car tho.
There is one for sale at my cousin knows of if you check the insurance section but im not sure of silver ( wanted one to swap my panels over) but changed my mind
What should about £2k get me
Thanks
Connor

Is uk 2000 just the same as WRX

Give me another £1500 on top of your £2000 and you can have this:

Have a look on eGay, done a search for you (WRX manual 2k)
Subaru Impreza wrx, Subaru, mitsubishi evo, subaru impreza p1 items at low prices on eBay.co.uk

Think it is...although the WRX has slightly more power standard. 240 ish over the UK's 208 or 214. Probably exactly the same engine, just with the ECU programmed differently; so for tuning potential you're probably just as well going for the Turbo 2000...since insurance will be a lot cheaper with it being a UK car.

But how many times was it hit with the ugly stick? Also are those engines not made of marzipan? Only joking that's a cracking deal really is, still looks like a frog

Connor - It'll come up as an import on their computer. The insurance companies know all. Lol
At your age(and mine) you're probably looking at close to £1000 extra to insure an import; maybe slightly less for a WRX.

i got a UK turbo..
the main difference between the WRX and the UK turbo is the power. UK turbo being sightly lower.
But for cheaper insurance you can really argue.
Obviously im sure you are aware the interior is different.
Id go for a Turbo 2000 mate.. but when looking somepeople call UK turbos WRX's just to confuse the issue

i found to get a proper quote from the insurance they will ask the reg i got a 1992 wrx import for 1700 quid and 600 quid insurance . they asked straight away it is was an import and as said above the first ones was 240 bhp but with a few mods most will be runing 260 bhp anyway

Standard bhp is 208 on a phase 1, and 214 on a phase 2(99 on). IIRC!
But then I think mine was a phase 1.5(98). Lol just to confuse things...not sure what bhp they were, probably 208.
View my scooby for the spec of mine which would be running 260-270bhp, and would be slightly quicker than a standard Sti I'd think...as it's not all about peak figures: if you get it mapped by Andy F you will not be disappointed.
The 98 cars ECU's can't be mapped though, so you'd need to buy a stand-alone ECU if you ended up with a 98 car - if you want to remap it that it - which aren't cheap.

A whole load of problems.
Dude, why do this to yourself?
You're going to buy a cheap 260bhp car on a shoe-string budget, struggle to insure it and then have to struggle along trying to afford it.
I'm not having a go, I was young once as well (I'm not so old now at 36) but it just sounds to me like a big headache. I had an Astra GTE at 18yrs old, when they were still cool and it was the worst thing I ever did, all my mates were out having a good time and I was always skint trying to pay for my car.
Why not buy something well within your budget and enjoy it until you have some decent money in the bank for something you won't be struggling to pay for. If it goes bang it will be stuck on the drive until you scrape the money together to fix it.
I've said this on another thread but I wouldn't think of owning a performance car unless I could throw a grand a month at it if it needed it. Thats probably OTT but its better looking at the money than for it if you have a problem.

Sorry to say but if you spend 2k you will most likely only end up with a dog.
Either borrow a couple of thousand more and buy a mint 99 or later uk turbo with a mappable ECU as it won't stay standard for long.
AS u may or may not remember im 25 bought my RB5 WR sport which has 240 bhp standard costs 400ish to insure. I have bought 1500 worth of parts including VF23, FMIC, 3 port boost solenoid, 3" de-cat exhaust and ECU with ECUTEK license. Fit all this plus mappers time and i will hopefully have 320ish BHP.
Basically spend a bit more and it will save u in the long run!!

Peanuts - Im itching for turbo power lol
Yea thats what im thinking. I have more cash available :-) an can afford to run it no problem.
I have been getting insurance quoets for around £800 ish now after looking around and thats for a UK turbo
There is a minter in Glasgow for sale i may go to look at on Saturday :-)
Also what fuel should a UK car be run on. Standard fuel or V power style stuff?

Found a nice localish one
Silver - P plate UK turbo
112000 miles on it. Full service history, cambelt done 500miles ago with major service - All receipts
No knocks,bangs or smoke
New age alloysphase to front lights, grill, bonnet ,MASSIVE fmic, baileys dump valve, turbo timer, HKS mushroom induction kit, smaco hoses, type RA gearbox an diffs, Exedy clutch ( would this make it harder to drive) 4 pot brakes all round
cat 1 alarm an tracker
STI interior, Nice exhaust on it aswell. VERY clean
£1800 with 10 months mot an 8 tax
Does this sound ok. engine bay looks a bit dirty but in good conidtion, car is spotless with no rust. No previous accident damage
Nothing is set in stone. Im going to take my time to find a decent one
Im awaiting a call back from Rob @ A plan

and with the clutch it depends what exedy it is they make quite a range if its a swap or a small upgrade will be fine feel like oem

I have an exedy clutch in the p1 and it is fine- wouldn't think you would notice the difference.
Dual plate clutch in the 22B is slightly more akward but like anything you get used to it and it's not a problem at all.
Not that you'll be doing much town-work up there (is it Elgin ur at??) I'm originally from Nairn and there are too many good roads up there to spend time driving about the town...lol
1st thing I'd do tho if you go go forward with the sale is get into a reputable mapper, get it on the rollers and have it checked over to make sure everything is tickety-boo....
I'd be running it on V-Power/Tesco 99- sure 95 is probably fine but with the mods on there it will benefit the engine to have a good fuel in it. Get it mapped on good fuel and you should be laughing.
Hope all goes to plan bud ;-)

You said you've got more money to add to your original budget and you can easily afford to run it but you're still looking at shonkers that have done over 100k miles for £1800.
What do you really expect for £1800?
Why not do what everyone suggested and add more money if you can afford it...or wait if you can't.

No harm in going to see cars. As mileage is only numbers at the end of the day. It could be a bargain afterall ;-)
