Thought they would handle better!!!
Need a bit of advice here...
Just bought my first Scooby its an 04 STI. When I have got my DCCD on auto the back-end still steps out when pushed but in my opinion not over pushed and this is coming from someone who used to drive a Sierra Cosworth rear-wheel drive. Is this normal?
I was under the impression that they stuck like sh*t too a blanket....
It also has the pro-drive suspension pack
It has Goodyear Eagle F1's tyres
Cheers
Andy

Better than understeer ?
Mine is an early 2002 model, so no DCCD, sh*ty blanket is standard, LOL
Scoobys have vast grip, but not a truely fine handling car as standard, imho.
dunx
P.S. "You canny defy the laws of physics, Jim"

No, it's not normal ..... get the car seen to and fixed. Did you have a HPi check on it? Has it been twisted? Or are you driving it beyond it's capability?
These cars are fantastic tools in the right hands.

Cheers for your comments guys - appreciated!!!
The car has got 343bhp & a 333ftlbs of torque and I may be pushing it too hard (although I dont feel as though I am) The car has DCCD on it, which I thought on auto would deliver 50/50 power distribution to both front & back - so when powering the back end should not step out by rights should it?
Yes, the car has been HPI checked and looking through the history i.e. service and all receipts I cannot see where the car has been abused or crashed.
Thanks
Andy

Not too sure what the tyre pressure should be do you know? It has 18 inch wheels on with low profile tyres....and what do you mean when you say "bushes"? And how much are they?
Thanks

Worth getting the geometry (alignment) checked.
If the rear is stepping out whist giving it the beans, with some degree of lock (say pulling out of a junction) then yes it's normal for the rear to power slide a little. They usually straighten up themselves, so long as you don't lift off abruptly (ie exacerbating it with lift off over-steer) or give it too much opposite lock as front tyres will suddenly bite and take you in the direction they're pointing..!
All of this will be more noticeable with cold summer tyre's.
Lol, you should have put your name down for our wet grip training at Rockingham end of this month..!
BTW, are you sure it's an 04..? As DCCD only came with WR1 and MY05 STI's>, unless it's a JDM or I'm mistaken..?

Just had the same problem pal, it was trying to step out and spin the rear wheels out of corners then when it snowed it became obvious it was mainly rear wheel drive, When jacked up it still turned all four wheels but under load just rear wheel drive, turns out the centre diff had lost it's fluid so wasn't working correctly. Got it replaced and all back to normal Just something to check

First I have an 05 STi!! Its because the power split on the 04-05s are 35% front and 65% rear so it does indeed act like a rear wheel drive car in sum circumstances (more than the other years)! If you lock the dccd, which is putting all the way to the top, then the split is 50/50 but its not recomended on surface streets, only in mud, gravel, rain and snow or slippery situations!! U want a link that explains it all??

My 05 wrx under the same situation exhibits the same trait and that's with a fixed 50/50 split..!
However, the car is set up to be tail happy, as that's how I like it..
I thought it was late bug sti's that had the most rear bias (35/65) with subsequent sti's having 40/60..? IIRC the latest sti has 41/59..???
All iirc of course..

Thanks everyone for all you imput and advice - but luckily for me I was schooled in a high powered rear wheel drive Sierra Cosworth, so the Impreza will NOT get the better of me. Joking aside I will be getting this problem (if it is one) looked into and hopefully get it sorted out.............thanks again everyone
Andy....will keep u posted.

As already said most thing point to tyres and rear ARB. Most peeps think "Harder" equates to more grip. always been told start at sofested point and work towards harder. To hard can make the car skitish. IMHO
Not a great lover of F1's how old are they ?? most tyres handle @@@@ for 100miles or till you really generate some heat into them.
What pressures you running? Try 33F 31R and see how that feels, tyre pressures are a "personal" preference to the feel you require.
Do you have an Adjustable Anti-roll bar? could be set too firm or be too big Diameter.
Some cars with Prodrive springs had 4 wheel "alignment" done by "Dealer" which can be very different to having 4W geometry camber & castor etc setup correctly
A possibilty, so check level.
IIRC IMHO

It always amazes me when people say this! Mine handles like a scalextric car. I would love to see what you all class as a truely fine handling car!!

...and on the subject of dccd in auto. On a 04 I don't think it has g-force meter so I think it opens quite a bit when you floor it. ie, apparent torque delivery closer to 65% rear than 50%...

There is a huge difference between grip & handling, mine understeered quite a lot when pushing on.... a Whiteline rear ARB transformed the car.
It suddenly turned in to corners much more sharply and if provoked, could provide a touch of oversteer on demand.... whilst not being twitchy.
My first car was an Imp, and modified right it far out-handled my STI as std., however the sheer grip levels were far lower.
IMHO
