I have a 2002 Bugeye Pro Drive Chip "Taken out the ECU" that's unlocked! and in 2003 they locked them down!
I have a PPP Chip for sale for 2001/2002 Bugeye!
"If" it's unlocked then you can remap so I believe!

the early ecu's have a spare socket in them, they are mapped by plugging a device or chip into that socket.
The ESL live mapping boards for example just plug into that socket and then are live mappable. So yes the ecu is live mappable with the correct device, the question and most likely what you were asking is whether the device used to map you ecu is live mappable. The answer is most likely not unless you can find the guy that did it in the first place etc.
If you remove the ecu and remove the cover and post a picture it may help try to identify what was used.
