Default Replacement Windscreen

Hi guys,

I need a replacement windscreen as mine now has a rather large crack caused by a stone

But I don't fancy getting it done by RAC autoglass as the last time they replaced a screen on my previous car they made a meal of it.

The roof lining wasn't put back properly so I had to strip it and refit it and they left dirty finger marks on the trim and roof lining and broke some of the retaining clips All in all I was not happy. Even though this was quite a few years ago I don't want to risk the same happing to the Subaru

Also I noticed today that the Subaru screen has got the chassis number etched on. May seem like I’m being a bit fussy but its little details like not having the chassis number on the screen that bug me so is it possible to get an OE screen made up with the chassis number etched on, but importantly still only pay my insurance policy excess.

Finally if I ring my insurance company they are going to recommend RAC autoglass but for the reasons stated above I am very nervous of using them ever again so can I say that I don’t want to take the car to them and suggest another company?

I used National Windsreens, insisted on a genuine Subaru screen (was inside a box with Subaru all over it) and went to their depot to have it fitted.

First rate job and everything was where it should have been, ie identical to the one from the factory..

RAC replaced my windscreen, the fitter did a great job.He insisted on coming back the day after to make sure the glue had set properly and the glass hadn't moved during the curing process.
As with so many things,I guess it depends on the man doing the job.

If your paying yourself then get one of the small companys out of the yellow pages to do it.

Autoglass wanted £300 for mine, got autotek to do it for £140

National did me one a couple of years ago and made a complete **** of it. They glued over the visible vin and cut some of the seal too short. As above, it depends on the man who is doing the job. Watch them like a hawk and if your not at all happy get them to sort it out!
