Default 154 MPH

i have a psi3 dash mounted ecu monitor and among other functions it stores peak figures ie rpm, boost pressure, roadspeed, etc.

when i was scrolling through it today i noticed that in the past 10 days my car has hit 154mph!!

i know it wasn’t me, but it has been taken to a few different places to have some work done recently.

the cheek! 154mph and it wasn’t my achievement

just thought i would share

Nothing p!sses me off more than a garage taking your car for spin. I reset the Defi's before it went off last week. I asked if it needed a test drive, to take it easy, warm it up etc as it is modded.

Went to pick up, asked again if it was driven with care. Oh yes, of course, no need to rag it.

Hit the peak on the Defis in the car (1.7 bar boost!)

βastards!

4.9 miles on the clock. He said they warmed it up first in the workshop, but said they'd have a word about the drive. Bet they dont and bet nothing changes. P!sses me off.

Wouldn't take the car back to them mate. That's not on!

a) Customers should always be asked/advised if a test drive is necessary.
b) The car should be kept off significant boost unless it is necessary given the work that was undertaken.
c) How can the car be warmed up properly in a garage In this cold weather it can be as much as 10 miles till the car is up to oil temp when driven, let alone standing still. Also the Gearbox and diff oil won't warm properly when the car is stationary!

To the original OP. If someone had my car up to that speed on a test drive, I'd expect a written apology, and a confirmation that they were responsible for driving the car at the time the speed was logged lest their antics was caught on camera! Unbelievable!! There would be some compensation forthcoming too, just on the principle!

What do you mean by ramps?

I stupidly left my car at a Kwik Fit and was later asked why I was speeding on the dual carriageway at lunchtime.

I made a formal complaint to Kwik Fit which come to f*ck all and threatened by the mechanics for complaining.

Personally i'd be fuming.

Took my car in for it's second service at the local dealer a few years back. Checked the odometer before handing over the keys. Got the car back with 18 miles extra on the odo and a quarter tank less fuel. Hmmm! Needless to say the car has never been back there.

Had the same problem last year when my car went in for a service. The car was seen over 10 miles away hammering down the road.

In the end the lad got his ***** kick, I got a free tank of petrol and a discount on my bill. When ever my car goes into a garage now, I take a quick snap of the miles with the mobile and let it be known it has been.

If I ever leave the car with someone I have not dealt with before, I switch the avcr to off so it only runs actuator pressure and set the rev limit on the commander to 2.5krpm and then take it home with me

Not directly. Our accounts lady happened to be talking to one of them that works there while on a night out and he mentioned someone had complained and they were looking for me to have a "quiet word" with said complainer - me.

the trouble is even if i call the companies that i took it to they are all just going to say it wasn’t them.

i kind of hope they were snapped by a speed camera that way i know where it was on that day and they can get the fine.

I'd love that piece of mind.

That's another reason the Simtek is appealing more to me. 1 map for me, 1 completely locked down map for the lying fuking scum garage

I've been thinking along similar lines Banny ... I think next time I have to leave the car with someone I'll just flash on a map with a low rev limit and spoil their fun

A few years ago I left my first Renault 5 GT Turbo at a Walsall Renault 'specialist/breakers' for a new alternator to be fitted.

I picked the car up a few hours later with a cracked rear light, crack to the bumper and a scuff to the alloy.

I went ape **** at them and the more friendly mechanic replaced the parts there and then.

The not so friendly mechanic was trying the old 'don't know anything about the damage son' routine......

Just wanted to check you have it on the right setting of mph only? From memory and i dont have one anymore they can be set for mph+ct(i think) which adds something else to the max speed. if you set it to this and drive it with that screen on you will see how far out it is.

just a note of caution before you speak to the garage.

I had exactly the same issue with my PSi3 Data Monitor, it read 154mph as will IIRC. However it hadn't been in a garage or left anywhere where it could be driven. To be honest I **** myself and thought someone must've taken it without my knowing and ragged it about.....but why would they bring it back

I eventually got rid of my paranoia and put it down to a mis-read by the data monitor. Funnily enough it did it again recently, although this time it read 146mph and I don't drive at those speeds, I value my license too much. So I'm pretty sure it either mis-reads the ecu every now and again (twice in 3 years that I know of) or the ecu gives it an incorrect value - I suspect the first option is more likely.

Sometimes the monitor can go a bit funny, rebooting itself, etc if it isn't plugged in solidly under the steering column, which could cause a mis-read possibly.

i am always paranoid about taking my car to a garage that is not used to cars scoobs as you can guarantee it will need a 'road test', i will think nothing of taking my car on a 150mile round trip to somewhere like powerstation where they wouldn't bat an eyelid at a modded scoob.

my guess is that its a problem with your gizmo, not the garage doing 154 in it.
