Current Scoobynet tests reveal that your "My Scooby"
Logo's are slowing down the site templates significantly.
Now, knowing that a lot of you like them, are you willing to accept slower performance to keep them?
My personal thoughts are that its just a cartoon picture of a car. Just get rid, but its your site, so please let me know your thoughts by way of your vote...

I would of thought the best way to solve this is to, for a fixed time period, switch off that facility and then at least a judgement can be made by the masses based on an informed fact. At the moment it is all sales speak...... if you know what I mean.
If the difference is "significant", then I assume the vote will be a no brainer.

That would be a first...
The guys are tweaking some f its code so we may have a good compromise available, but if not it would be good to know in advance what the members would like us to do but yes, a trial could be arranged. Maybe 3 years with it off, then....

Phil,
Unfortunately I know a lot..... as you very well know!
Stu,
If it significantly speeds the site up.... ditch it. If you ditch it and it doesn't speed the site up significantly someone will feel the noose tightening around their necks. For once it won't be mine. roflol
My new found arrogance is quite enlightening.

Yea bin it, we all now have shiny new avatars which can be a pic of our cars, so no point in having the other ones. However will you then find that normal avatars are also degrading the performance, and then ditch that?

One thing I did notice though, is the quality of the avatars is pretty poor. I resized my original image in photoshop, looked fine, checked it in XP viewer, browser etc, also fine.
Upload it via snet n now it looks poor

Yeah ditch the car logos and let us have some better quality avatars

Personally I like the cars. A bit different to the other forums. Perhaps if they were a series of preselect images rather than pull down menu choices they would load quicker? Especially once each one is in every user's internet browser cache?

I suggest ditching it in favour of a text based list of options to detail which type of Scoob is owned. It helps knowing which type a person has when answering technical questions and they don't specify in the post.

Bin them, although I don't quite see how a few 2kb GIF files can be slowing the site down, there must only be 40kb per thread - the avatars are a similar size so by binning the cartoons but having avatars I doubt the performance will increase.

I have said no as I don't use them anway. I'd be tempted to say don't bother with the avatar either (although I've used it).
However since turning off all the adverts etc in Mozilla the load speed is much faster.
