Cool

Got '99 Turbo 2000
Rated at 215bhp but with Scoobysport back box this is probably more like 235bhp. Trouble is, had it about a year and it's getting a bit tame !

How can I get a grin back without breaking the bank.
My insurance co has quoted +130 ish if I chip to +30% on BHP
which I'd be happy with if it makes the drive more fun.

Anyone got experience of boosting an "Entry Level" Scooby to something significantly more tasty ????

Welcome,
I doubt if you've got 235 just with a backbox, if you were to fit a downpipe, and even leave the centre cat on, then you'd be grinning form ear to ear for a long time, it does produce more noise though, but that's half of the grin factor.

Cheers Ron,

I was sort of quoting some figures that suggested that the 215 stated by Subaru was a bit conservative for the '99 Turbo 2000.

If I remove the down pipe - I guess it'll need to go back on for its 1st MOT next year ?

What kind of 0-60 / 0-100 change do you think I'd see

cheers

Not sure about the figures, but it just makes the car what it should have been from the factory, turbo spins sooner and free-er.
Re mot, well, some say that with justa centre cat, if you give it a good run b4 the test, it should pass, thats what I'm hoping for, seeing as I've gone fully de-cat, I'll just put the centre back and try it.
Just get a scoobysport downpipe fitted, you will not regret it, I promise!

Cheers Ron, I'll get onto Quembys in Baldock to book it in for a Scooby Sport down pipe, might go for quick-shift gear change as well.

What other mods have been worthwhile ?

I was told that a EMS chip upgrade could boost my "Standard" Turbo 2000 to 300+BHP for about £800. Seems Expensive (for just a chip)

£800 for 300bhp from a UK car seems like a bloody bargain to me !!

Sounds like a major bargain and a quick route to a broken engine to me. There are (or at least were) a few UK cars with 300bhp+ around, so you might like to ask their owners what they did to keep it reliable. Check dyno.scoobynet.co.uk for details - Andy Tang and Moe spring to mind.

There's always the PPP - expensive, but utterly reliable and a major improvement in low-down torque and driveability. My car (MY00 Turbo) tested at 255bhp at PE with no other mods.

the standard unofficial bhp for a MY00 Turbo in A1 condition is more like 226BHP, i had mine tested at the recent Well Lane rolling road meet and this is what i achieved with my MY00 Totally Standard / No Mods (except air freshner and tax disk holder)

Question

So, assuming I'm getting aroung 226 BHP with scoobysport back box
what kind of BHP should I expect with downpipe and air filter.

What kind of increase do you need in BHP to make the kick interesting again ??? I was thinking that I'd need to get it up to at least 270 before I'd really notice much improvement. Or is that not the case ???

Take a look at scoobysport.co.uk - think they have before & after dyno runs of cars fitted with a downpipe.
Also - somewhere there is a website with dozens dyno runs of Scoobys with mods - cant remember the address but someone here should.

If you have a full de-cat system, is there a danger it will cause it to overboost? Seem to remember that if that is the case then an ECU upgrade is required to sort the fuelling etc.

I have a decat centre and the downpipe is probably next on my shopping list.

Thanks
Paul
