Should I get a Scooby?

Should I get a Scooby?
Hello everyone, I'm new here.
Ive currently got a 1.2 Vauxhall corsa and im on the look out for another car for the coming months.
Ive always loved Scoobies and always thought I wouldn't be able to own one, but ive just realized it might be possible, so I need some advice from you all.
First, ive just done an insurance quote, on my parents insurance and depending on which engine you get, the 2.0 Sport R is only £500 which is good for me as im only 21! Although the faster engine is £2500!! A great difference.
My main concerns is the reliability, but more, when they go wrong is it an expensive job? I don't have a well paid job etc, I might have 2k spare for parts.
How much can you get a nearly new one for with say 20k miles and 2006 or above?
My little Corsa currently does 48mpg opposed to the 31 the Scoobie offers which would be one setback, but it might be worth it
General advice please on if its practical for me etc.
Thanks!

yeah your looking at the low 20s parts are expensive but when you drive them they put such a big smile on your face but a big dent in your wallet luckily i only use mine at the weekends so not too worried about the expense.

A wrx or STi will break you on fuel if you are getting high 40's at the moment. I was getting between 17 and 23 mpg in my STi.
Parts are LOADS, my clutch was £1200, about £500 a service it goes on, but.....
Everytime you drive the car you will forget about cost, petrol, insurance, You will just have a massive smile on your face.
Scoobs feel like they are the modern version on VW beetles, I mean they feel like they are a far more important car (in car geek terms) then we understand at the moment. Its great to be a part of it too.
Plus I know LOADS of girls that drive corsa's

Yeah, as has been said- if £££ is a problem I would just steer clear at the moment.
31 mpg.....I assume that's the sport? Even then you would have to drive like a puff to get that!
TBH if you don't have a well paid job etc. you would be better off just sticking with the Corsa, build up your NCB, save £££ and then when you have saved up a wee bit you might be able to get the car you want rather than settle for something just cos you can afford it. It'll make it all worthwhile when you get the keys that unlock 300bhp :-D
Like the 205 & 309 but Peugeot GTI's.......not convinced.....

Absolutley bang on with the comments already made
Ive owned a corsa with a c20 xe lump pushing out 165 bhp
but there aint nothing like a scooby turbo, ive been a vaux nut for over 10 years but once you get bitten by the scooby bug you wont want to drive anything else,im a courier with my own buisness and drive a cdti 1.7 combo, and i have to remember....dont try and pull off an island to quick or the sprinters will get you!!!
Start saving dude!!

Scoobies are great cars if you can afford them - they can be an endless money pit to fuel and maintain!
Sods law will prevail that if you are on a limited budget then you will get things go wrong that are expensive to fix.
Go for the Peugeot GTI as an interim step up or even a Renault Clio - my old Clio was a right old go kart

you'll be lucky to see 24 mpg
then cost of ins, road tax, servicing.
don't buy one, unless you have the cash.
mines been faultless- very impressed, but it was only 2 yrs old when I bought it. can't comment on older stuff, but you don't see many faults appearing on these forums.
ins in yr name, at 21, even for a 10/15 yr old car- worth £2.5 k will be £1.5 k to £3K at a guess.
I'd say set aside £1000 a yr for wear/tear/servicing, plus ins.
fuel will be what kills you sadly.
worth the experience, possibly worth waiting for till yr older.
at 20/21- and I'm not being rude- you'll bin it due to inexperience, as I'll bet you'll drive it to its max everywhere.
only thinking back to how I used to drive, how we all used to drive when young

If fuel, insurance and repair bills worry you, then a scooby isn't for you I'm afraid.
Better to build your own no claims bonus with the corsa (policy in your own name) till your 25. By then you will have 4 years no claims (hopefully), you will no longer be a high-risk driver, and hopefully you will have a better job.
That's what I did, I'm 25 now and only just got myself an 07 STI PPP. I mean the engine has just failed catastrophically, but that's besides the point! Luckily it's still under warranty, so no costs incurred to me. Needs a whole new engine and turbo. Had it not of been under warranty, £2000 wouldn't have got me very far for repairing it I don't think!

Why dont you look at a celica gt4 either a st185 or a st205,
both 4 wheel drive and turbos. The st185 is 180 bhp and the st205 is 240bhp too 255bhp depending on uk or import. I've had both. Also alot cheaper to insure

I had a Mk2 Punto derv for 6 years, did 80,000 miles in it! I nearly brought a brand new 1.9 MultiJet Derv to replace it. It was a nice car... and that exactly the problem with it, it was a nice car.
I found my scooby by accident, drove past it countless times on a nissan dealers forecourt. I only went to have a drive to see what it would be like and one test drive later I brought it. Wasn't even looking to buy a car at the time!
Insurance costs more, fuel costs three times more... but it drives nicely and when you need it to go, does it go... and mine is the slow on with only 225bhp.

I was 20 when i got my 1st scooby, and although it was a great car, I never had any money left over from filling up with petrol and buying simple things like tyres (which dont last too long), even servicing aint cheap.
Having said that I dont regret it, and 9 years on im on my 3rd scooby now

Scoobs will be expensive to run, your better off with a GTI or the likes (I also will plug my Pug 306 GTI here which is for sale with fsh etc ) as the 2ltr isnt exactly the quickest car in its class and will cost you a fair bit in insurance/servicing costs.
Your other option is a diesel, try the astra CDTI, good mpg and performance
