Hi,

I am looking at buying the 22b on a y reg on autotrader, the car has 2500 miles as it was in storage. I wondered if anyone knew any more history on the car. Also wondered on were I could get a warranty for this type of vehicle.

Jim G

Warrender have a 22b with 1,900 miles on it, with a great reg of S44 WRC.

I've seen it and it is immaculate, they are based in Northwich in Cheshire on 01606 77660.

Good luck...

Question

Jim

I thought the 22B came out in 1998 so how can a 22B be on a Y plate?

It would be (1995) N to (1998) S Reg, dunno how it's got a Y plate on it ??? I'd look into that mate (Probably a WRX with a badge )

Cool

"Cost new £47k"

Maybe it cost him that much to buy it but they were less than £28k in Japan brand new!

Sunnyhill Motors in Turrif (north of Aberdeen) have 2 22B's - they've been in stock for a while now so they might be prepared to haggle - mind you, they're Aberdonians so don't be surprised if the won't budge a penny. I seem to remember them having a website.

Townfield Cars in Oldham. The car is supposed to belong to the owner or his son and was used as a private car, not seen it but it should be immaculate with that kind of mileage.

cheers RAZZ.

If memory serves me right, there were only 16 official 22b's for the UK market, the rest were not destined for these shores. A special edition designed for the year Mr. McCrash failed to win the title.

It had totally different body panels (wider)and powerful engine, believed to be in excess of 300 bhp, although officially it was classified at 280, and was as near to the WRC car as you could get. Seen a couple of Jap imports at a dealers in Cookham, and they were looking for 31K for one.

Apparently its the dogs B*ll*x in terms of performance for a "standard" impreza, but according to a dealer were I got my car serviced, you need a trip to the dentist to get your fillings replaced after a good cross country hack, even on the UK cars.

Must admit I would go for one tomorrow if the price was right, and it was a UK car.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Jim

Adam

think i was just about right, which shows my memory of when the 22b came out (just got my UK turbo)is not totally devoid. 16 for the UK, in excess of 300 bhp, a lot wider etc. Remember trying to catch one going into gerards cross to have a closer look, could not get near it.

Ride quality was based upon feedback from the guys at SGT taplow, have no reason to doubt them, they said the ride was very harsh compared to the standard UK model, which even the un-initiated use to remark upon when I use to go hacking on Bucks B roads.

cheers

Jim

It could be a Y reg - it does say 2001 and the resolution's too low and the angle wrong to confirm it as either Y or T.

If you store a car before it is registered, then when it is registered it will count as 'new' and get a current plate. There are some very late Audi Ur-Quattro 20Vs around which were registered years after they stopped production.

22B's are wonderful cars. They are not harsh on UK roads. They are a 2.2litre, have a very torquey engine but are not 300BHP plus. they are more like 275BHP in standard form.

There is tonnes that is unique about them including a seam welded shell, wider track and magnesium wheels.

The 22B type-UK was fettled by prodrive who made 16 of these. It has a longer gearing better suited to motorway cruising and it has a diferent spec of suspension damping and spring rate.

The jap spec 22B got a slating when it came out for being harsh and that stuck. In my experience of the cars i would say the writers didnt know how to drive a performance car, they are excelent. Any scoob with an uprated suspension kit is going to be harsher than a standard Jap spec 22B IMHO.
