Question JDM cars

Have recently looked at JDM STI 2005, seems really nice car. The owner says owned it for 2 years and was imported with low mileage. He says that it has never been re mapped for uk fuel but always run on Shell V power . I am total novice with cars, is this correct. And what else should i look for when buying JDM.

Cheers

Yes these need a high octane fuel to run correctly, they can run just on v power but they may retard the ignition (my spec c did it on numerous occasions with optimax and booster) so put 650 quid on one side for a remap just to be on the safe side
Then your usual things, HPI check, inspection if possible from a speciallist or dealer who deals with alot of JDM twin scroll cars, service history (6 monthly/7.5k whichever is first, different to the UK cars) then everything else is like any other car, but if in doubt an inspection would be advisable
Also roughly where are you in the uk? that would give people a chance to point you to a good dealer for that inspection, as no doubt the owner wouldnt mind if they have nothing to hide as long as you pay for it

If your going to have it mapped then its worth a fuel pump and maybe considering removing 1 or 2 of the cats in the exhaust,
you will see better gains on your remap too.

You wont need to upgrade the fuel pump on one of these unless you change the turbo and go for 370+bhp, and they only have 1 cat anyway so if the downpipe is changed, do it at the same time as the remap as they dont like not running without one on the standard map

My Spec C was upgraded as per Bob Rawles suggestion prior to a remap - 3 port boost solenoid, "black magic" alteration to actuator, uprated fuel pump induction kit & decat exhaust. Mental car afterwards

They dont need the fuel pump upgrading, running 310+bhp means that the fuel pump must be running 90+% out of the factory, and thats never going to happen!
The only reason they say upgrade the fuel pump is that they are cheap, but its not necessary, neither is the 3 port boost solenoid or an induction kit, they are all "tweaks" but not necessities, well the induction kit isnt really a tweak, bit of a backward step really better off with an STI panel filter

Now, seen the car, looks good if you can get it inspected then do so, she is a real bargain!

Had my 04 JDM STi for 2 years aswell & am loving it. Been looked after by Zak at Mocom Racing, who incedently owns & runs an 05 JDM STI himself, so you'd be in safe hands. Run mine on Tesco's 99 or Optimax with A bottle of Millers octane plus every 2nd fill up.
Touch wood has never skipped a beat & totally standard with all the boring bits left in the stock exhaust, it's running a very healthy 320bhp.
