Default Weight Reduction in a Classic?

ok lads, for those with track cars.. whos got the lightest scooby?

and if you were going to try and make your car lose weight, what would be the first things to remove? or the heaviest things?

if you have pics of stripped out scooobys post them up too.

and for those fast road scoobys, what have you removed to make your car lighter? piccies please

never really hear weight loss with scoobys, used to with my old cars though.. its free power.. better bhp per tonne

some comparisons would also be good such as differenc ein weight between standard seats and your new buckets? and/or your lighter body parts or standard wheels vs lightweight track wheels etc.

should give a good indication on how much we can lose

cheers

air con is simple to remove and quite a good gain, the compressor alone must be 15kg plus

But air-con is nice on hot sunny day when you're queuing to do your sprint or drag runs

Only 'free' weight iv lost is crap in boot, spare wheel, wood, jack etc - spares not big enough to go over my brakes so why not?

Not free...

Lightweight RA panels? ie bonnet, doors, wings iv got an alloy bonnet, with carbon reverse scoop

iv lost weight of my mirrors (now wrc carbon items)
a few KG off my brakes (swapped for k-sports)
light weight wheels! (inovits)

have you considred lightweight performance items, i read putting lighter pulleys on is the equivelant to removing XXKG's from your cars weight, cant remember how much though

all the panels are the same the only lightweight one is the bonnet, the RA didnt have air-con, rear wash wipe, eletric mirrors, electric aerial, central locking and i think some sound deadning was left out

not sure about sti 5, i thought it was type-r's that came with the alloy bonnet & wings already not just the RA.

wings n bonnet were deffo steel on my uk turbo though, bonnets alloy now, may purchase lighter wings in future

As above, the only lightweight panels the RA has is the bonnet, same as the others, it's a misconception.
The RA's weight loss is down to lack of electric windows, airbags, central locking, abs, spoiler.
I fitted lighter seats, the standard subaru stuff is heavy. The corbeau seats saved me 15kg.
The decat pipe was only 3kg, standard cat weighs 12kg
Stainless headers i fitted were 5kg, standard cast ones with up pipe were 15kg
The technocast alloys i fitted were 1kg each lighter
Lightweight wheel bolts saved 1kg
Total saving of 38kg, plus the spare/jack etc.
The other weight saving options are a bit more extreme, stripping interior's not for me!

the alloy wings on a RA is just a myth, they had steel the same as any other impreza, i`m also pretty sure all imports came with the alloy bonnet

First thing to do would be to remove all the stuff you don't need that doesn't cost a penny:
Air con,
Rear seats,
Jack and spare wheel (although this is an Mot failure I think),
Carpets.

Then, if you're feeling flush, you buy lightweight alternatives:
Wheels,
Wheel nuts,
Seats,
Body panels.

Then you can go into other mechanical areas:
Carbon ceramic discs,
Aluminium Calipers,
Lightweight crank pulley/cam pulleys/flywheel etc,
Alu suspension components.
Titanium exhaust..

List is endless when you get to this point - to the degree where what you have for breakfast makes a bigger difference.

I've seen cars that have had holes cut out of the metal to save weight, but I think this is pretty pointless.

i have taken all the sound deadining out of the car from front to the back, if you put it all in one big bucket it adds up to alot of wieght, , and the other usuals the aircon, the pulleys that go with it, once the air con is out you can take one of the fans off,

I forgot, I've done the pulleys, saved 2.5kg, and the flywheel, saved 5kg, so a total of 45.5kg!
On my car, this is the difference between 280bhp/tonne and 293bhp/tonne. A lot of work for 13bhp! But, the car handles better for it, and the light weight pullies/flywheel gives better response.
Oh, and no spare isn't a MOT failure, but a bold one is!

I'd probably try to lighten the unsprung weight first (Wheels/Tyres/Brakes/Wheel nuts) ...& then move onto highest things that sit above the CoG
