Well if your after a WRX classic the insurance wont be far off that of an STI, so you could probably rule that out also as they are grp 20, uk classics are grp 17 so cheaper to insure (theoretically).

I'd go for a Turbo 2000. You will be looking at a 9 yr old car at the very youngest. You want as much history as possible. You are more likely to find a UK car with a FULL history.

forgot to say it's got to be a classic best looking on in my opinion. The only mods I'll be doing is an exhaust and then just cosmetics like sti spoiler etc. The insurance on a sti is way to much but a wrx turbo or turbo 2000 is only £1300. Am I right in thinking u can't get a uk classic sti they were all jap imports
Cheers for the help mat

All sti`s and wrx`s are imports in classic shape. And as mentioned by tony, wrx and sti insurance should be quite close as there both group 20.

Stick with a UK turbo 2000 then if thats the only mods you'll be doing.
But trust me once the modding begins its hard to stop!!
As people have already said an STi and a WRX classic are both ins grp 20, you sure it wasnt a newage wrx that you got a quote for, as they are grp 18??

I'd get a quote with Red Flag. a lot of people on here are insured with them.
If the quotes good, go with an STi for higher peroformance. If you get a WRX you'll have to mod it to achieve the same power and a modded WRX will cost more to insure than a standard STi with the same power.
Only thing, STi's are a little more to buy in the first place. But between £2-£4k you'll find a decent one I'm sure.

I wouldn't worry about car groups, as dispite what is put in the press and magazine, different insurers rate cars different. When I worked for AXA we rated WRX's and STi's as group 20 no matter the age.
Then when I switched to an independant company, Road Insurance all WRX were 18 and STi's dependant on age were 18,19 and 20.
So it matters not, just get a quote for the model you want and see if you can afford it first. I've got a Jap Import modded 330bhp WRX fully compwwith NCB protected and its only £545.
