Default First Trackday - Exhaust Noise level HELP!!

Morning All,

I am planning on doing my first track day in the scoob this summer and decided to test the noise level to how they would do it at the track:
Javelin Trackdays - Noise Testing & Limits

Noise level at 0.5m was 105dB......max limit is 102dB!

I have ordered an exhaust bung and am going to test it again with it fitted but was wondering if anyone has had any problems with noise levels even with a bung fitted?

Car has a 3" exhaust system from turbo back with sports cat and afterburner r backbox. Car as also been mapped since so don't really want to change the exhaust setup.

Any help/advice much appreciated.
Thanks
Matt

Did you test it properly??? 4500rpm at 0.5m ??? As if you did 3/4 revs that may account for a higher reading.

The other thing you have to watch with javelin is drive by tests as well,I was at croft 95db tested with a full decat Miltek but on the straight I was reading 100+ got a gypsy warning that they were watching my car and had to back off on the straights after that to save getting pulled in.

Never showed more than 94db with full scoobysport decat- which I appreciate is one of the quieter systems. Even the 3" revolution on the hawkeye only shows 93db. If you're reading 105 you're either measuring it wrong, or it's excessively loud; most of the bike powered stuff with straight pipes doesn't show much more than 102!

Also, on the day, dip the clutch when you're doing the noise test as this will take any transmission noise out- which can be worth quite a bit.

We used some sound measuring equipment from work, 3/4 of my rev range is between 5000-6000rpm (STI so rev limit is higher).
Maybe the best thing for me to do is take my car down to another track-day and get it tested free of charge before I commit to doing one.

Why do they have noise levels? It seems a bit stupid?

As far as im aware the reason for noise level is for the people leaving close by to the track,

Matt,

How did you get on? Did you find a solution? I'm in the same boat. My 'unknown' full 3" decat on my sti was 101db at Bedford autodrome last week. Their limit was 101 so I had to short shift when passing the noise monitors. If you trip it your off, no second chances. Pain in the ****. I'm looking for a quieter back box or a bung.

Croft has just lost a court case too regarding noise. They are now limited to use of the track for only 40 days a year!

what utter bollocks.

If you dont want the noise from living next to a race track then DONT BUY A ****ING HOUSE NEXT TO A ****ING RACETRACK!!
