Default Rusty fuel tank! causes

Hi guys,

I’ve got an Import Classic which is been rebuilt. The other day we fired it up and the engine was all good, however we noticed a wining noise from the fuel tank. We open it up to find that the fuel tank is rusted inside and the reason for the wining was because the fuel pump had become blocked from the rust.

So I wanted to know if anyone had experience this, or if any1 knew why the fuel tank would rust.

Could be the filler neck that got rusted first (common problem) but more on UK cars.
Has underneath the car been fully sealed?
