"Facelifted" 2001 WRX
#1
I stopped off at Wilsons in Chadwell Heath on Saturday and noticed a 2001 WRX in the showroom which had some minor detail changes to the front end:
The small panel between the grill and goldfish bowls had a couple of slit vents in them, the grill itself had a finer mesh (bit like an MY97-98 grill)and seemed to be set back further than standard. There may have been some other subtle changes to the surround as well.
There was also some quarter spoilers at the front that I didn't remember before (although I might be wrong about this) and the whole lot was colour coded.
This was my first "in the flesh" viewing of the new car and my initial impresssions were that these changes helped things a lot and it look OK.
The dealer also said that some new headlamps were due in soon that were the same as the rally units (although he didn't seem to know what I was talking about when I asked if the ducting would be for real use ).
He mentioned that their demonstrator would be coming in with a large bore exhaust and panel filter which makes a big difference.
Unfortunately I still think the car sits too high and the paint finish on the spoiler was appalling; I know silver metallic is one of the hardest coulors to spray, but this was striped and faded as if done by an amature!
I might give the demonstrator a try just for the hell of it if I get the time.
Neil.

The spoilers on the car would have come pre painted direct from subaru because all add on's on the accessory list come either painted silver or ready to paint for the same price. Good if youv'e got a silver car. Not if youv'e got a blue one and have to add on £80 for painting!.
If you go for a test drive it handles better and the exhaust makes a difference from standard.
All the best
