Default Cambelt

well after taking the cover off to see which tensioner i have on my 97 jdm sti
i found i have the hydrolic tensioner so i have orderd one of those a cambelt and new water pump is there anything else anyne thinks i should buy whilst im doing this change my car has done 62,000 miles thanks in advance
p.s i dont mean things like lightweight pullys etc just run of the mill things etc

check all the pullys by spining them next to your ear. they should give a nice woosh not a rattle/crackle, change the front oil seal too if you can.

yeh do the front oil seal... i done my cam belt and 3 weeks later was ****ting oil from the seal! nightmare

is it a diy job to do the cambelt and tensioner on a scoob? I like to maintain mine myself where i can, is there a guide of something? Cheers

I have said it on here before... Bought one of these Autodata Timing Belt 2007 Book on eBay, also, Technical, Car Manuals Literature, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 01-Jun-09 17:22:43 BST)

Was one of the best things I ever bought... Tells how to remove and reinstall cambelts with correct torque settings for most cars you can think of

Yes and no;

Anyone who is mechanically minded can do it; providing they understand exactly what going on when checking idlers and the tensioners for wear, putting the new belt on whilst ensure every pulley remains aligned once the belt is fully tensioned.

Its a simple task, but does require brain engagement. As the potential consequences of not paying attention is a set of bent valves. If its the first time you have ever changed a camebelt, I'd advise to either try it on a banger first or get somebody experienced in changing cambelts (preferably on multiple cam engines) to help.

Hardest part is undoing the crank pulley bolt.

Workshop manuals can be found in the tech articles section (but that won't tell you how to undo the bolt, nor how to stop the cams springing off the valve springs and staying in position when putting on the new belt).

cool i will getone of those orderd then what about cam seals any need to do it or not
or shll i just check etc ????

is it hard t do the oil seal or is it just a case of popping the new one in?
