Andy Forest's Performance Guide?
just been looking at AF upgrade levels to achieve the best gains. but what i am not sure about is weather those stated figures are for everyday driving or just running big power with no reliability what so ever?
for example a version 3 sti is capable of taking 400+ on standard internals with no internal upgrades needed until you reach level 5, which is 470+. now i am assuming that this level has been tryed and tested by AF and driven the way its suppose to be driven. after speaking to others ive been told a V3 would literally blow in your face running this kind of power. so what is your opinion towards these levels? can they be implemented on the cars and at the same time drive them the way they are suppose to be driven on standard engine? obviously ruling out the gear box and clutch. as we all the Andy Forest is the Best and he knows his imprezas.

All Andy's figures are for reliability. He does things the right way, and there's no point whatsoever in specing and mapping an engine for it to blow up. You won't go far wrong with that guide.

thats exactly what i & my mate think about Andy's set power levels and always have a discussion about it, however many other people do get into disputes with me about this matter. after a read through on AF's site i spotted the 2.0 litre MY 95 WRX RA that held the fastest 1/4 mile record for 2 years on stock internals running 440bhp!!! that does show its tryed and tested to its peakest.

all i'll say is 400bhp on a classic wrx engine and gearbox, good luck.
im not aware of any tuner, other than andy, who will take one that far on the standard bits without serious warnings and advice about high risk of engine and box breaking.

lol, it has been tried and failed many times at a guess because it always recomended not to. you will get the odd ones that will survive power like that, but then you'll get ones that dont, i blew my gearbox at 260bhp and 280ftlb, yet thats suposed to be way within limits. 350 is norm the limit people will push the standard engines and gearbox's to

I'm running @least 310 no probs on a vf24. Fancy pushing up this summer to 360+ with introduction of a td05 using AF guidelines & also got the go ahead from my mapper who thought the idea was safe. Normally don't redline car so think i'll be up for the test also.

Have a UK Turbo darn it. Suggested output was rough 320 but easier to just go along with 300-310. Mapped by JGM & will be booking in with him later on this summer for a rolling road map. As said hopefully be looking around 360+ with un-equal manifold & tdo5.

When I enquired about it on my last trip to him to have Simtek fitted to my MY99; he said, "yeah you can go for 400bhp, but I'd budget for a new clutch and gearbox if I were you"
It would seem that it's really a matter of achieveing the 400 mark using sensible boost given the engine internals and experience now suggests that even the UK models can run 1.4-5 bar reliably.
I'll stick with about 340-350 for now and when I do an upgrade, do it properly and aim for 450

This is something that has confused me for a long time, one of the most highly recommended tuners and mappers say 400 is fine were as the rest of them say it should not be done, I guess it has to depend on the engines previous life and how it has been treated

VF35 mate....with a few supporting mods . I don't know if it IS at 350, but certainly in the 335-350 range as it was delta dyno'd on the road at 338bhp and 343ft lbs torque BEFORE the simtek went on and its running a tad more boost now and certainly feels a bit quicker.
The VF35 is an excellent turbo for the road for those who are happy in the low to mid 300s and want excellent response. Same applies to the VF34, but they are usually quite a bit more expensive.

NS and myself are running VF35s, although NS has a front mount giving him a bit more.
I am still on standard top mount but with STi Y-piece piping running 325.
I think both of us are running 1.5bar on standard internals.

Yes UK with standard internals both NS and myself.
Its because of that I don't want to go any higher with a bigger turbo again.
Firstly any higher than 320-330 and I would have to change intercooler/injectors and possibly gearbox. Past 350 and I would think it would be advisable to change engine internals.
So I personally am happy with 325 as any higher, and it would mean a LOT more wonga.
For 370-380 I would think you are looking at 18G/20G/MDs.
