Default My new 2002 scoob wrx

hi, just bought this 2002 wrx wagon. its an animal.

anyone know of common faults to watch out for?

also, maybe im being paranoid as never had a turbo motor before but (the vehicle has been on forecourt for 2 months) when the vehicle is up to temp there is a faint smell of warm oil. no visible leaks around engine or on drive way.

tips and advice would be gratefully recieved.

matt

Have they have just done an oil change prior to sale?
Maybe they have done a sloppy job spilling oil over the engine/ manifold. Ive seen it a few times. Really annoys me as its not difficult.

Enjoy it! and enjoy buying petrol

argh, yes that could be it. im really parasnoid though that something will break on it. never had a turbo car before....these cars are pretty damn solid though arent they?

how much would a TD04 replacement turbo cost should a turbo fail?

Is it kicking out blue smoke from the exhaust?
If not dont worry. Probably just oil spilt and it will burn off.

Think turbos are about 500 quid but dont quote me.

Just dont thrash it until it warms up, dont turn it off after thrashing it. let it run for a couple of minutes. Also stick to regular oil changes with a quality oil, and you will be doing everything you can to prolong its life.

2002 WRX left the factory de-tuned a bit so as not to spoil the fun for people who bought an STi LOL

Having said that it's still 215 PS so drive it like you are running from an ANPR camera car LOL. No real chances of breaking anything as it was built to take more (jap) power

TD04 turbo is a tough critter so no real problems there

Just keep it looked after as the manual says

Post a pic

Subaru sorted a lot of problems when they introduced the bugeye.. for the price it's the performance buy of the century

They just made a major mistake on the looks (ugly) and didn't bring out a major Mitsubishi EVO killer so things had to be changed ........LOL

No problem for me........I've got a bugeye

Probably a leaking cam cover gasket on the turbo side....

dunx

P.S. Don't worry till it "drips", it is unlikely to catch fire.... enjoy !

Make the most of that feeling, it doesn't last long.

You'll soon get the modding bug.
