Default Few queries for a type r classic shape

Evening all,

just wanted to know a few things regarding my type r, these are as follows;

1 - wanted to get a smaller number plate for the front bumper - anyone got one? are they illegal ? How much ?
2 - Wanted a smaller rear exhaust something alittle more subtle e.g 4inch back box, but dont want to spoil performance, any suggestions ?
3 - Main one for me here - wanted to no if you can remove the standard tints the type r comes with as im going for a more subtle look.

if any one could advise on the above i would be most gratefull as im a newbie to subaru's....... and learning gradually lol

cheers

Hi Lando,

I have a smaller than regular front plate on my type-R... pretty sure its legal too... just make sure the lettering is of legal size and width etc....
look here: Plates for Cars - Number Plates - Show Plates - Registration Plates 12X3" one is what I have

As for exhausts... theres so many to choose from.... have a look around and just pick one you like... can try temple tuning, scoobyworld, scooby bits, revolution, scoobyparts, nengun... etc

Tints can be removed by any tinting company... just make sure they are tints and not darkened glass

Numberplate lettering has to be the same size as on a regular car, any smaller and its illegal.
Backboxes are quite personal but hayward and scott do an excellent quality item that should fit your car and window tints, think my type r has smoked glass and not tints, though I don't sit in the back to check

So long as your car is an import and does not have European whole vehicle type approval, you can chance your luck with 64mm lettering instead of 79mm.
I've had my plates made up to these exact sizes set out in regulation 14a. Part 1a is fine, but part 1b is the one open to question.
I've been stopped a total of five times in 6 years. I just show them a printout from the government website.

______________________________________
Size and spacing of characters: special cases
14A. — (1) This regulation applies in relation to any vehicle imported into the United Kingdom which—
(a)
does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval; and
(b)
is so constructed that the area available for the fixing of the registration plate precludes the display on the plate of a registration mark in conformity with the requirements of regulation 14.
(2) In relation to a vehicle to which this regulation applies—
(a)
each character in the registration mark must be 64 millimetres high;
(b)
the width of each character of the mark, other than the letter “I” and the figure “1”, must be 44 millimetres;
(c)
the width of every part of the stroke forming a character in a mark must be 10 millimetres;
(d)
the spacing between any two characters within a group must be 10 millimetres;
(e)
the vertical spacing between groups of characters must be 5 millimetres;
(f)
the width of a margin between the mark and the top and lateral sides of the registration plate must be not less than 5 millimetres;
(g)
the space between the bottom of the mark and the bottom of the registration plate must be not less than 13 millimetres; but, within that space, the space between the bottom of the mark and the top of the name and postcode of the person by whom the plate was supplied must be not less than 5 millimetres."

The rear side windows are dark glass - not tinted with film. I bought P1 rear side windows to lessen the tint - looks better IMO.
