Default Private plate transfer, help needed

Hi Guys

Any help greatly appreaciated!

If I wanted to swap my plate over to a new car (not band new) that I buy from a dealer what do I need to do, the new car is not taxed at the mo so I'm very confused and the DVLA site has just confused me more.

1, Do I buy the car, tax & Insure it under the current reg no
2, Complete a V317, with the dealer signing on behalf of the last owner and send off
3, Drive car home on original plates
4, wait for new docs to come through
5, then get reg no on tax disc changed an dtell insurance co to change policy

Thanks in advance
Arron

The dealer should do it for you. Subaru dealer didn't charge me the £80 fee either. I've had dealer do it every time I change car

sales admin at the dealer should do it for you, my GF works for VW as, yep you guessed it, Sales admin lol, so she's always sorting them out and saying how panicy customers are about it when its all in hand lol (only poking fun)
