Sold my 2005 STI PPP last year, and bought a Golf GT Sport 170 TDI.

Although I very much like getting 500miles per tank (Instead of 200) I'm getting ichy feet for a performance car again.

Was planning on getting a 996 Turbo this year, but work was being effected by the credit crunch. Things have stabalised now, and thoughts of a second weekend car are bouncing about my head.

Running costs/maintanance costs of a 996 Turbo are quite high. So have started looking for alternatives.

Lichfield have a Type25 MKII up for sale, and this has got me thinking. The numbers leave me in no doubt it 996 Turbo fast, without (Hopefully) 996 Turbo running/servicing/warranty costs.

Anyone on here running one? The one up for sale is Black (prefer Blue) and doesn't have some of the goodies I'd like (But could get fitted) like the Porsche brakes, and 18" Alloys.

If anyone is, what are they like?
Worth the money?
Any problems with the Cosworth engine?
Are the Porsche brakes worth paying for?

Have seen a mint Evo 6 TM Edition up for sale. Always like the Evo 6. Could be in with a shout as it's only £14k compared to £30k for the Type25.

i would love a type25 especialy the mk11 but at just shy of 30k i will have to leave it for a few years i think

yep ,i have type 25 mk 2 . difficult i have mr fq360 and 997s all great, but bang for buck t25 is hard to beat ,brembo ,ian recomends alcon now?

I keep lookin at that one aswell. not sure about 30k though (red spec c for 19k with 400bhp) plus dont know about running costs.

Running costs are no different to any other Scoob in reality, for the MKII road car. I have a 500+bhp version of the Spec C Type25 MKII set-up, which was built based on the Litchfield/PowerStation Type25 Spec C Race car.

The Type25 is more than just a different engine, and that will be reflected in it's resale value.

Shaun, the red spec c had every enhancement possible and 11k cheaper, so does this not make it virtually the same car apart from the engine. It also has porsche upgrade and 18" wheels. Or am i missing something very obvious.All points of view appreciated i only live half hour away from Litchfields and want to find as much about the car before taking a look. Thanks in advance

The red spec c was a bit of a steal, hence it sold very quickly. With all the mods there probably isn't a lot between them other than the way they deliver power and the potential for further tuning.
A standard spec c block at 400bhp is getting close to the limit. The forged internals on the type 25 will make for a very comfortable 415bhp and the potential for a lot more (see litchfields website for power upgrades )
I would also expect the 2.5 litre type 25 to give a more progressive delivery and more torque.

As a spec c owner I would seriously question using one as a daily driver but that's a different story

The one on the Litchfield site is based on the spec c variant, less sound deadening, bigger boot intercooler tank, plus lots of anorak stuff that I can't remember.

There's another on Pistonheads, based on the A-line with small spoiler for the same price.

Wish I could afford one, but have to make do with a mk1, and tidy it up gradually.

Anybody know how many of each type-25 was made ? The seller of mine thought 30-40 mk1, no idea about mk2.

Mk2's was 52 I think. I had the last one. A brilliant everyday car with massive performance.

The numbering was consecutive, so if your's was the last one there were 52 altogether. There were two mini series within the blob shape, as they were being revised all the time. Basically, it looks like the pre-MY05 cars were slightly different to the MY05 cars. All of the Mk 2 Type-25s were hawkeyes AFAIK. My MY05 was number 27, and I am aware of a few more that were built after mine.

What you mean to say is Shaun there will be a number 53 you will own it ..it will be a hatchback and it will have your engine out of your car in it
