Default What you best and worst "WATCH THIS" driving moment?

Hi guys,

i was sat around with some mates and this discussion came up, all of us had some funny/scary/awesome moments so thought i'd start a thread and see what other peoples were....i'll start:

Worst:

Just had my 2002 WRX for just about 2 weeks, i was only 21 and on top of the world...I was driving down to my first Posers Cruise down Southend and as i was going round a large roundabout on a underpass near the basildon sainburys where people meet i said to mate 2 mates in the car "watch this"....floored it on the bend and for a few seconds the car was out sideways and i thought i was a driving leg end but then the speed caught up with me and it fish tailed/tanked slapped all over the place!! i started heading towards a huge 1ft curb when some how i managed to rescue myself. My heart was almost bursting out of my chest and i had a serious cold sweat on. My mate in a car behind saw it all and told me afterwards one second i looked like a absolute pro and then in a blink of an eye i looked like i was about to write the car off...lucky escape.

Best:

After having the WRX for a couple of years and quite a few mods later i was going to a popular shopping complex in greenhithe and there is a roundabout thats lovely, even and can be on the quiet side. I headed round it with 2 friend on board, saw an oppurtunity when it was all clear and said "watch this", i managed to get a power slide going pretty much the whole 360 degrees around it, friends were mightly impressed and i left with a big smile on my face and loving my scoob even more.

Right now for the not so small print... i've started this thread just as abit of fun because we'll ALL had a least one of these moments good or bad. I'm pretty sure alot of people have had alot more extreme stories to mine so roll up roll up.....

Never really had a worst moment, apart from writing my first car off avoiding animal life in the road. Had a few scarey moments, but none you think "thank ****".

Currently the best is showing up some rep **** in his Leon Cupra deisel in my nimble 205GTi

Tootling along and both go over a roundabout which dips down then hits a steep hill. Mr rep is well under the speed limit and I go to overtake politely. Mr rep doesn't like this and boots it. Has me on the dip and hill straight due to deisel powa so I follow in (fun) persuit. At the top of the hill theres a sweeping left hooker which hits another roundabout. Both take the sweeping left, but Mr rep lifts off a bit and brakes twiching his back end. I power through knowing lifting off isn't an option for a light Pug. "Thats his warning" I think to myself. So Mr rep takes a right on the roundabout, still going to fast. Me still in (neat) persuit proceeds to watch as he totally lifts off and ends up sideways then facing the other way. I proceed to beep my horn and chuckle while passing him on the outside and taking said right exit.

That taught in **** that traction control doesn't save you all the time

My first car was an Imp...........

(Young'uns may need to Google that one !)

Usually a very neutral car, but rear engined, 750 Kg's and around 100 bhp, so late one night I hurtle into a roundabout, rear ends breaks away and I drift halfway round onto some black ice

So the car spins and stops pointing straight towards the centre of the roundabout, with the front wheels up against the central curbing.

But it won't move

So slippy that I couldn't get any traction. So I got out and pushed the front of the car round till pointing clockwise again. Then drove off

I did laugh !

Amother gem was spotting a traffic car approaching the T-junction at Lund (East Yorkshire) as I turned it at [Ahem !] mph so I stamp on the brakes and out steps the rear end, and I "drift" across the nose of said cop, as he stops at the giveway lines......

Then followed me down to Beverley, a good 7 miles before wagging his finger at me ! Phew close one there !

dunx

P.S. Last Friday's run to Morrisons I annihilated a Civic Type-R full of "bouys" innit, then my paddle clutch decided to make me stall at the next set of lights

Worst

As a young idiot I was 'playing' with a Honda CRX in my Corrado, and although I thought I'd braked in plenty of time, the car just slid and slid. I cadence braked and even applied the handbrake, but took my front bumper off using the pick-up truck in fronts tow ball much to the amusement of the CRX I'd just annihilated Not a mark on the pick-up so I parked the car in a mates garage for two weeks until my new insurance with protected no-claims kicked in, then said it was hit'n'run

Best Many to choose from

Overtaking a Mundano, airborn, sideways, and at about 110 then getting the thumbs up from Ian (bandit890) 'cos he said it looked awesome from behind

Doing the 12 miles of Ribblehead in under 8 minutes

Doing Strines in 10 minutes and hitting 160

Drifting the hairpins on Hardknott/Wrynose Pass's

Overtaking the instructor when he spun off in heavy rain in a Formula Vauxhaul single-seater on Donnington

Lapping just 0.9s slower than a 35 years+ pro rally driver at the blokes own circuit whilst driving a Scoob for the first time ever, in appalling rain.

Passing a Vectra with a couple of young lads trying to show the mighty Scoob what for on a Cornish B-road. I followed them for about two miles, but when the opportunity showed itself they were left aghast at how fast I went past them As they misjudged an approaching corner with another road user and braked, I floored it and passed safely at probably 4x their speed

I think you need to stop being so modest Dave, otherwise folk could accuse you of reverse arrogance

(for the record we do know you're a decent driver - the above just cements that)

Worst moment: stalling in front of a crowd of admiring onlookers after leaving the hand- brake on and trying to pull away gently looking cool!

Best moment: Female passenger asking me if I'd yet had sex in the back of the car

Easy one this...

I was with my ex in my new MK4 Astra way back in 2001...

We were entering the local Odeon cinema car park and it was P***ing it down. There is a really tight bend as you get in and i said...'You could have some fun in here!' as i looked into the massive car park that was basically a skid pan..

Then i said 'Watch this!!!!!'

Turned the wheel to go around the said corner and the car just carried on going forward :O rammed into a curb and jumped into a flower arrangment and stopped an inch away from a solid steel bollard buried in the bushes!

Looked over at my ex and she had that 'D***head' look on here face..tried to reverse the car and THOUGHT it was ok until i realised the wheel was virtually at a 90 degree angle..wishbone...cv..wheel the lot was hammered..quick phone call to dad sorted it though..lol

This was a moment. Had the scoob about 3 weeks. There is a very tight corner at work car park and it was snowy. So i thought, i think ill drift this and put a little power on, then i thought, nah thats way to tight to drift and so lifted, only making the car more sideways. Got back on the pwoer sharpish and drifted it round. Got out afterwards and my rear tyre came about 2cm from hitting the curb. The corner is wide but closes to about a cars width + 3 feet. Couldnt have come any closer lol.

Also in the snow at an empty car park, an escort was messing about, i turned into the carpark and started circling the escort sideways before hooning off lol. +1 AWD

Must have been some Imp: my twin carb model had less than 50bhp!

Can't think of a Best moment, but worst one:

New Year's Eve in a 1966 Triumph 1300. Me pi$$ed as passenger, my brother barelling along a country lane back from a pub trip. "Watch this" I say and suddenly pull the handbrake up for him.

Triumph ends up in a ditch. Fortunately no-one hurt and farmer soon pulled the car out with only a detached front number plate to show for my stupidity. We never told our parents and just screwed the plate back on.

My best is as a passenger
One of my mates get's a 6 mile old for Ka as a courtesy when we are 17.
It is getting hammered to death as you would imagine. Driving through a town
and i say to my mate "go and pull the handbrake up" he says "you do it" i ask ask "are you sure" he replies "yes"
I rip the handbrake on so hard i can't get it off car spins 270 into a wall and knocks it down. We **** ourselves and mange to drive off. Stop about a mile up the road to inspect the damage and all there is is a dirty great catch in the body coloured bumper. He checks the excess on the insurance £2k!!!!!!!!!
Take a trip to halfords get filler, wet and dry and paint. Fix it on his drive in 4 hours return the car at the end of the day and nobody notices RESULT!!!!!!!!!

Also have a mate who parked his car and as he walked away the car started rolling.
In his wisdom he stands in front of it to stop it and it runs clean over him breaking his leg in 3 places.

Ah Turbo2, it was quite something.... sounded llike a bike engine and revved to 9500 rpm in first and second gears. The ONLY car that ever rubbished me was a Carrera 4 ( in a straight line of course !) as it was all done by 115 mph (8000 rpm in top !)

Had it in the twisties, tho'. Well actually I didn't, but only 'cos it was too narrow to get past.....

LOL

Having the car a week and hitting a kerb. £50 and alignment later some pride was restored.

Catching, passing and leaving behind what turned out to be a semi slick shod, 500bhp Evo 8 by T13 on the Nordschleife and have the driver come looking for me to ask what I had done to my car... my car was completely standard.

Well done

Understandable IMHO, as people with power figures like that often spend most of the time trying to control the power, instead of being in control of the car.

My best moments is everytime i get in the car and start her up. Im not much of a person to say try and slide her and such. Knowing my luck I would mess it up lol.

Worst Moment been a Few. Like when coming home one night slowed down as there was a parked van on other side off road and there was cars already commited. When there was a gap I went and carried on and this car overtook the parked van an caught my whole side. She said I slowed down to let her go, but I never flashed her or anything, just slowed so the commited cars can get past. So 500 quid later lol.

Then just recently a fox ran into me car so need bumper fixing. And I've yet worst is to come I fear when or if my engine lets go.

Worst and funniest looking back:

My first car...........cream Lada Riva estate 1.3L with auto lock brakes!!
Tanking it as always, well it felt like i was anyway, coming up to a 90 degree corner where i know a lot of my car less mates hang out and wanted to show off. So i left it to last minute to apply the brakes, which of course locked up and sent me straight on over a raised curb and into a bookie shop window!! bloody car was bullet proof though, i just backed up and drove off, a little red faced of course. I damaged the bonnet which i repaired with rope and bent the steal gurder that Lada used for a bumper so that it was sticking out like a lance. Me and my old man tried everything to straighten it out, including using a sledge hammer but it wouldnt go so my father suggested crashing it again to straighten it out. Drove down to the disused industrial estate and drove into the side of one of the old factory buildings.......it did the trick

Best:

Stuck in traffic after leaving a rally at Margam Park in my MR2 Roadster and decided to turn around after getting a little pi$$ed at sitting in traffic for so long. I turned full lock and just whipped the clutch out and went into a really controlled drift then steared like a pro in the direction i wanted to go and held the tail out for about 20 yards!! Felt a bit of a ****, but i enjoyed it

my worst moment

i went out one night while it was snowing in my cli 1.8 16v (loved that car) and ended up at sainsbury's car park in cannock everybody was out messing about and there was this lad in a bmw m3 who i must say cud DRIVE! so once he finished showing off i decided to have a go (here comes my watch this moment lol) there were 2 lamposts about 30m apart so iwas doing a figure of eight around them using the hadbrake and plenty of right foot lol and i must say i was doing it really well an loads of people were watching so i was well chuffed.
i then decided i would finish with a j turn so, flat out in reverse full lock left front brake while i change into first but i never got into first because as the front spun around the car stopped dead with a big thud!
i didnt see the curb that had the snow level with it so didnt think there was anything there god did i feel like a T**T!

Best moment

i had just brought my scoob i have at the moment and i went out to show it off to my mates and 2 of them asked me to take them out so i did we went up to the orbital islands in cannock (3 islands in a row) and as i got to the top island to go all the way around to come back i though i would give it some beans but it started to understeer as the road was slightly damp.
so i let off to let it grip then floored it again not really thinking and the ar*e end stepped out big time i absolutly s**t my pants but some how managed to keep it side ways then straighten it up with out letting off my mates were well impressed and so was i that they couldnt see the colour drain out of my face when it happened lol.
have never tried it again strangley enough
one of my mates who was in the car that night went out and brought one cuz he liked mine so much lol

this is a video of my mates worst moment practicin his J turns he wont thank me for this

Worst moment for me - when I had my first vaguely quick car about 6 years ago - a JDM Celica SS2 - had only had it a few days, was late at night on a road I thought I knew fairly well.

Overtook 8 cars only to find I didn't know the road so well and arrived at a hairpin right doing about 90mph with virtually no time to brake. Luckily the JDM model I had had the same brakes as the GT4, and front and rear strut braces so I was able to scrub some of the speed off and get round the corner....tail came round, applied opposite lock but a little too much and span 180 before managing to stop and come face to face with all the cars I'd just overtaken.
Had to sheepishly do a 3 point turn in the middle of the road and then pulled in at the first layby to calm down!

Best moment - winding some chav in a Corsa up at a set of lights; he was so intent on beating me he didn't notice traffic in front of him just up ahead was stationery - he tore off and drove straight into the back of a pickup...bit irresponsible of me but oh how I laughed...

That reminds me of my version way back in the 70's, a quick mini pulled up and revved his motor, light was red so I dropped the clutch and then slammed the brakes on.

Off he went through a red light....

I did make sure it was clear first, wouldn't like to hurt anyone !

LOL

Oh I remembered another bad moment. Was on way home to Brid from Abingdon. Was coming into Bainton at the time which was a thirty zone and has a sharp bend to. I was in a Honda Prelude 2.2 Vtec. Well this clapped out ford mondeo overtook me on the sharp corner he was well doing over thirty.

I was pissed of from being stuck on m1 for hours so I carried on my why through Bainton onto the roundabout. Then I was up brehind this ****. It was clear so I overtook him. I could tell he had put his foot down, but my VTEC was in full swing. I was going so fast that I overtook the two cars in front of him and by this time there was oncoming traffic. Oops.

Came to the next roundabout and took wrong turning as I'd crapped myself lol.

At the end of the day I shudn't of bothered its betta with the **** in front of me, but I was young and stupid.

Worst and best moment - borrowed a mate's Corolla AE86 for a few days. Having a bit of fun pressing on and decided to just flick the tail out coming off a roundabout just too late to see a mixture of oil and water all over the road. Car got a complete tank slapper on that somehow I managed to control with a lot of see-sawing at the wheel and a bucket load of luck. I was sweating profusely and had my heart in my mouth until I looked at my lady passenger who just said 'That was amazing... do it again' I decided it was probably best not to though
