Question Air Con service ?

Thinking about getting this done as it's getting a bit smelly and not very cold, the Kwikfit deal of £45basic (+£20)complete = total £65 seems ok, Is that about the going rate ? never had it done before so not sure..
Any places better (Farnborough, Hampshire)??

Thanks

Ian

The smell is probably your pollen filter, (or kids/dogs !).

LOL

From 1995 Air con gas used was R134a hence different connectors, the older systems gas were more dangerous to work with than current, Thats why most places won't work with the older gas.

If your getting it serviced forget the decontamination as you can get the same stuff from halfords cheaper.

You want the gas removed, system vacuumed for at least 30mins (longer the better as this removes all the vapour) then regassed to whatever it says on yr front panel.

Yr old gas gets recycled by the machine.

Do you trust your local Kwik Fit and Halfords? I've personally had a bad experience at Halfords (Couldn't fit a battery) and a mate of mine had a bad experience at Kwik Fit where they ragged his wiper arms causing them to bend. This damaged the wiper motor in the process. When the manager saw the damage and the evidence the mechanic had caused it the cost of the repair and the MOT was dropped.

you will get "monkeys" in any garage ...not just the two that you have mention

try get afew cars then you can haggle with them as well !

Or the berks area.

I too would rather not use kwik fit based on my previous experiances with them.

I went to kwik fit the other day to book the mrs' new pug in for an aircon re-gas and to get the tracking checked. After checking the tracking monkey boy informed that all was OK on that front but the car needed new discs and pads all round - yeah right! I have receipts for new discs and pads in the previous service history from just over 3 months ago. They'll try anything on at kwik-fit - suffice to say they're not gonna be doing the air-con!! I will get some of that air-con gas from halfords and have a go myself.

Quite a few years ago I took a Golf GTI to Kwik Fit in Halifax to have them fit a Janspeed exhaust. On my way back to pick it up it went taring past in a 30mph area. When I questioned this the well rehearsed answer was, " We need to make sure it doesn't leak!". They had put 12 miles on it too. Like I said earlier, too many bad experiences to use them again. Best of luck with the DIY regas by the way. Bob

Just like to say i popped into kwikfit to get my aircon regassed and was quite impressed total price £45 aircon checked for leaks, drained, and complete regass and other stuff leak sealer full report of pressures before and after

Aircon regass is about the only thing kwikfit is good for, the DIY kit from halfords is £39 an extra £6 and you can have a Monkey do it for you
