Hi all
Was taking my kids to school this morning and the gearchange into 1st was a little stiff from cold. This is quite common. When I began to drive through the gears I realised the self centreing action had failed and didnt settle on the 3rd/ 4th plane and in neutral there was little or no resistance in the gearstick action and also when in gear there is a very small amount of play as well.
What have I done? and how to fix??

If you look under your car where the gearlever drops through the floor, you will see a staybar running forward from the gearlever which is fixed to the gearbox by way of a large round bush a metal end plate and a nut.
The metal endplate has a tiny bracket with a hole in it & if you look at the gear selector rod which is adjacent, it too has a tiny brkt with a hole. There should be a spring fitted between the two (part no 33022GA081) which I think you will find has fallen off your car.
