starting to like scooby's :(

Hi all.
I currently own a Escort Series II, which is my pride and joy , BUT it's getting on now and so am I
I was at Kimbolton on Sunday (Go Karting) and heard a lovely rumbling sound and looked across and saw a blue scooby with the reg. plate X500 0BY with dots cleverly positioned It sounded well nice.
I am tempted to buy one BUT they are soooo common Just driving into work this morning 10min journey I saw 4 scooby's. This puts me off as you rarely see 3 door cossie's through town etc... This also apply's to the Escort Cossie, The factor must be hugggeeee. I reckon that you get more respect in a cossie than a scoob beacause you don't see them as often
Still my mind is not made up. Comments please!
Ian
p.s. Cossies seem to have held there price alot better than Scooby's have plus they are only a couple of years old.

If you want exclusivity go check out an Evo, I've had mine for a month and haven't seen another on the road (albeit I only really drive it at weekends).
As to "respect", it all depends on who you want respect from. If you want the thumbs up, and being let into traffic, from drivers wearing baseball caps in RS Turbos and Novas, then it's also definitely your car. For some reason, every scooby (must be about 4 or 5 now) I have waved to has blanked me

Gary,
thanks for the advice I have only just started looking into buying an Impreza. Questions: What models are there please, specs?? NOT the new one tho as it looks ****. Appearence is important
Also, I have never worn a baseball cap, and I drive a RS Turbo, so their LOL
Andrew - What makes you say that

200,
I used to have a MK2 RS which was great fun, the STi 3 that I have is very similar in the way that you could pretty safely use all the power that was available without being spat into a ditch a the first corner. My MK2 ended up with a full race pinto that have a power band from about 4750 revs to infinity due to a full race steel billet Crane Cam. Wouldn't worry too much about the prices, there was a time in the early 90's where you could't get insurance on cosworth sapphires and the price of the early rwd cars plummeted - but they've long since recovered. Because the prices are so cheap at the moment, keep the Escort and buy a scooby as well. Another bonus about there being so many around is that the availability of good 2nd hand performance parts is pretty good as well.
Scoobies aren't so common where I live !
Kevin.

Hello and welcome to the board.
IMHO
Take a Scooby out for a test drive and see what ya think. as far as lots of Scoob's on the road i think this is an endorsement of just how good they are, there may well be a lot less Cossie Escorts on the road, then again the production run was only 3-4 years (?)the Impreza has been in production longer than that.
As far a 'respect' goes, what exactly do you mean by that? hand gestures from yo 'homies'
or people asking you about your car or looking at it as it goes by. As far as 'homies' goes the less attention the better, i get people asking me about my car from time to time which is quite 'flattering'
The less attention the better!
There is quite a lot of track days and social events organised by the people on Scoobynet, there is no eliteism and you will not find an 'in crowd' only a lot of enthusiastic owners who know how to enjoy themselves off and on the track
I made my mind up having driven 'the competition' and have not regretted a moment of Scooby ownership.
Go on, try one, you might like it!
You stated;

What did you mean by that???

I had a Mk2 RS 2000 Custom many moons ago, i did not realise that Ford did a Turbo version of the Mk2, is it an aftermarket turbo and how is the reliability/ Power output?

you definitely have to take one out and see for yourself what the fuss is all about.
i would not say they are common - well not down here anyway and i cant imagine that anywhere they are common in the way a mondeo or focus or vectra is common !!
not sure about the respect factor but i certainly get quite a few people looking at the scoob.
also they are now even better value for money on the 2nd hand market than ever b4.
go try one and les us know what you think.
i'm still grinning 9 months later

200+ If everyone replied here you'd be swamped with +ve responses of a Scoob biased nature. From what I've seen of the guys & gals on here they are generally friendly helpful and at meets any car enthusiast is greeted in the same manner. At one meet I was at there were even some guys with a oldish Saab Turbo who came along to join in the fun. Some Scoob owners are very cautious about their longevity and licences and wouldn't travel much slower if they drove a Morris Minor, but all are welcome (if slightly frustrating to each other at times )
I would advise you to find a meet near you to pop along and talk to some folk there. You will be welcomed
