Default Engine light on and overboost problem :(

Ok first of all sorry if this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it, wasn't quite sure which area to drop it.

Ok tonight on a stretch of dual carriageway i put my foot down upto around 6000rpm and changed from 2nd to 3rd gear. Put my foot down again and at about 5000rpm the car seemed to lose power briefly similar to when you hit the rev limiter ( i don't make a habit of hitting the limiter, i did it just after i bought the car hence i know the feeling) and the engine light came on.

I though ****, what's happened here, there was no big cloud of smoke and the car still drove fine so i put my foot down slowly and the boost gauge went over 14psi where it normally stops and on towards 20psi
Of course i immediatly backed off and nursed it home which fortunately was only 3 or 4 miles.

What have i done?

Can anyone solve this problem for me and tell me how to get the engine warning light off too please?

The car is a 2003 blobeye wrx standard apart from a backbox, rear de-cat and induction kit.

any help would be great as i'm panicing like mad

cheers

Jonny

Sounds like boost creep, the loss of power was probably fuel cut (the ecu cutting fuel to protect the engine). I'm getting the same in my 04 STi, the fault code is probably P0244. If it is then the problem can be sorted by cleaning the boost solenoid (how to guide is on scoobynet) or replacing it with a better aftermarket one such as Perrin.

Found the guide here...

https://www.scoobynet.com/technical-...-solenoid.html

But it means nothing to me , it says about connecting the green blocks - connect them to what? Any further info would be great, i really don't want to cause any damage to the car

The light will go out after 4 -5 starts of the car where it doesn't detect a fault, the code will stay in the ECU memory though. I use my laptop to view/clear codes. If someone has the kit local to you then it may be worth checking the code and clearing it.

I believe you connect the green connectors into each other, once you're done you disconnect them. Not sure why they suggests this though. There are loads of guides out there, I linked to the scoobynet one as it was easy.
