EXHAUST DILEMMA.....
I got my heart set on afterburner back box and decat pipe....but a part of me enjoys the point of keeping motor standard..gives it bit of cred. Only reason I wanted change is that I own MY06 STI 2.5 and it isn't as burbly as previous versions.........decisions...decisions..???

personnaly i dont think you can beat the nice noise of the scooby, everyone hears a scoob and they know straight away and start looking for it, i just had to get a new back box for my classic i went to exhaustuk they built a cobra back box to the car as they were fitting it, it took over an hour but it sounds fantastic, i believe they'll build it to the sound you want, i dont think a scooby is the same when it's quiet.

Don't bother with the decat pipe if you are keeping it standard. Just get a Blitz NurSpec 'S' to release some quality burble. Afterburners are nice, but the Blitz has more class from a build and fitment point of view. Awesome build quality and the pipe sits flush like the OEM box rather than poking out like the ABurner.

I wouldn't worry about the decat pipe. I changed the back box and resonated pipe (the bit joined to the back box) for an afterburner and it sounds awesome. A scooby aint a scooby without the burble!!. I found mine way to quiet as standard.

It's best to inform your insurance. If you are rear ended they will only pay out for a standard back box if you haven't told them any different.

Blitz do the back box & centre section as a kit called the Blitz NurSpec 'R' which also comes with a handy bung to quieten things down on a "hungover" day.
Be aware that the SpecS back box doesn't fit the SpecR centre section so if you get the S & then decide you want more you will have to get a different make of centre.
BLITZ sound clip This will be more than you are planning as it has a Perrin down pipe & STi up pipe. But who knows, once you get used to the sound you may want more.

even on a 2.5L?....heard the afterburner was one to go for...
Just dont wanna get one and be disappointed...think quietness of 2.5 is mainly down to **** backbox rather than centre pipe??

You start off thinking it's enough but get used to it & want more.
I started with the standard exhaust with a Prodrive back box. I got used to it & wanted more power so decated & remapped keeping the same back box. I got used to the noise & fitted the S. I got a bung to be on the safe side but have never felt the need to use it.
As Stu (53WRX) says the S back box on it's own is just right. I know people that bought both the Afterburner & the Ninja back box & have all changed to the Blitz with no regrets. Quality wise you won't beat the Blitz which is why it is at a premium price. Again I know of people that have had issues with fit & loose baffles etc who went for cheaper options.
My thinking is "Do it right" "Do it once". I wouldn't want to water down the finish that has taken a lot of time & money to get to a certain level on my car.

Thank you. It's been a labour of love since 2003. I won SIDC Modified Live 2008 Best of Show with it which kind of makes it all worthwhile.
Tell me the hairs on the back of your neck didn't twitch just a little bit when you first fired it up. I know mine did.
I haven't put the face back on my ICE since either as I know I won't want to listen to anything else.
On the downside my fuel consumption has crept up as I tend to hold the revs through the gears a bit more now.

Quality wise the welds don't look so tidy on the Ninja & the two rear support brackets appear to be just tacked on with quite a short blob of weld & only use a single rod. If the bits you can see are like this I would be concerned about the bits I couldn't see.
The Blitz has the brackets substantially mounted with doubled up rods and a good length of weld along each.
The welds on the Blitz are a work of art especially where the tail joins the main part.
Like I said "Do it right" "Do it once". Fit & forget but at a price. All IMHO.

What would just de-resonating the rear pipe on the 2.5 and leaving the Prodrive back box in place sound like?
Or the Nur Spec S with a de-resonated rear pipe?
Early start/neighbour friendly!
