Default Hello

Hi thought id best introduce myself

Im ben 21, ive always been into peugeots and currently have an imaculate 306 gti 6, which i love to bits and over the last year has been a cracking car.

Unfortunatly a friend of mine let me have a go in his impreza turbo wagon and ive decided ive got to have one now.

I dont know much about subarus, but will be looking for one in the run up to october (renewal time)

The model i have my eye is a post 98 classic impreza turbo 2000, must be a UK one (for insurance), must also be a saloon

I ideally want one with under 100K, service history and not much more than £2500, dont want a massivley modded one either

Any buying / general / what to look out for advice would be much appreciated.

Keep the pug, its not that much slower than a standard UK turbo

thats odd, cause the one i got taken out in is meant to be a standard (ish) turbo, and it seemed very fast. apparently it had the jap engine in it, but i thought these were supposed to be a similar power?

They feel quicker due to the power delivery, in fact they are not that much quicker (167 v 208 and higher transmission losses), so when rolling there aint much in it, I use to keep up with new age standard WRX's in my last Pug 306 GTI-6 before getting scoob number 3, number 1 was a uk car, damn had problems keeping up with a standard civic 1.8 vtec (170bhp)
They aint that quick you need to tune a scoob for it to be quick, you need atleast 250bhp to stay out in front of the latest hot hatches, and even then they wont be dust, they will be in your rear view mirror and not disappearing....

to be honest i think it was the power delivery that i enjoyed so much when i drove it and the NOISE!!! it really did put me back in my seat.

How easy is it to get one up to 250 bhp then? Ive heard the UK ones are a bit unreliable when you start tuning them, but is that just if you go over the top?

You can tune the uk ones quite easily to 270bhp, after that your changing turbos and uprating other parts, but its pretty easy to get to 240-50bhp, especially on the 99 and 00 year cars as you can re map the ecu on those

270 bhp would do me nicely

Are they generally pretty reliable? (well compared to an 11 year old pug...)

Yes very reliable when done right, but they are not the kind of cars to just turn up to boost in.

Get a stainless exhaust system, an uprated panel filter, a 255lph fuel pump and you should see around 270bhp after mapping.

Rubbish .. I have a UK standard and have no trouble from most cars .. this thing about the Scooby being the slowest car on the roads now is a load of crap.

The only hot hatch to ever give me stick was a highly tuned fiesta with something silly like 300bhp ..

The Scooby is an awesome car mate.. I had a 306 before I got a Sport (before my turbo) and it is a whole different game

i presume you didnt have a gti 6 before you had a sport, because i know a chap with a sport and the thing barely moves (no offence to anyone). i definatley wouldnt think about chopping the 6 in for anything less than a turbo.

I do agree i think they are awesome cars, im not overly keen on the looks, but the noise and the performance more than make up for it.

Nah sports are as slow as can be. Lol it's definitely got to be a turbo.

The sound is one of the best things about them. I used to just repeatedly drive through tunnels at night with the windows down and floor it. It's difficult to take the smile off your face while doing that! Whenever my pals were in it they were always asking me to find the nearest tunnel.

what sort of mpg do standard UK turno 2000 imprezas do with mixed driving, (mainly b roads).

Im trying to weigh one up against my 6, think im getting around 27mpg in that.

Right,

Ive bought one.

Paid £2150 for an 1998 R-Reg Impreza.

Its one of 333 Terzo ones has covered 95K, its got no service book however it has reciepts for a £4500 engine rebuild and new turbo at 65K and has invoices for every 5K since as well as all old MOT's

Its standard apart from a baileys dump valve and a non standard exhaust system and a turbo timer (think the spoiler might be different too)

Its not immaculat there are a few rust patches worst is on rear arch and a slight crack in the bumper.

Interior wise its nice with alacantra seats, however the door cards look a bit scratty.

Seemed a fair price to me and it drove the 160 mile trip back sweet as a nut.

Has it been chipped or mapped with a new ECU? Not important at that spec, I'm just wondering.

What number have you got? I had 228.

Should have a plaque on the centre console near the ashtray.

Should still be down on the log book as a Terzo and not just a UK Turbo? I'm sure they are just stuck on with a bit of glue so easy enough to come off!
