Default How necessary is it to MAP

Hi all, ive got an 04 sti which ive put several mods on and followed it all up with a map from bob r and car is as sweet as a nut. On saying that a good mate of mine as an 94 wrx which i think has had some bits done on but not sure what. About a week ago he cracked his turbo so got hold of an td05 16 and put it straight on and ot now gos like a bat out of hell and hence the question about the mapping because he didnt have it done?

The real problem is having a map-able ecu on the car, I'm no expert on the variations over the years, but some have to be replaced with e.g. a PowerFC to allow mapping.

IMHO

it would have been the origanal turbo for that model/year, One thing though it now has serious backfire (like its running some serious anti-lag, which its not).

Wink

18/20g/MD will need mapped, fueling won't be right. VF34 is standard on an 04 STI, I think... will stand corrected.

As stated, early WRX, like mine, has a TD05 16g as standard.

Mines never been re-mapped.

Some Scoobies will play happy with mods, some wont.
